and the Earl of Verulam, or any one or more of the Stewards of Gorhambury races for the time being, shall, on proper application being made, on or before the morning of the races (at least two hours previous to the time of starting for the first race), call upon the nominator of any suspected horse to produce satisfactory testimony that the horse named is not the property, either wholly or in part, of any person defaulting in respect of stakes, forfeits, or bets lost upon horse-racing; and if the nominator shall refuse, or fail to do so, then the Earl of Verulam, or the Stewards for the time being, shall cause the nomination to be erased, and the nominator will be held liable for the stakes or forfeits thereon.

Should any horse, nevertheless, coming under the foregoing regulations, be mistakenly permitted to start, such horse will not be considered a winner, although he should come in first.

No horse trained by any groom or other person who is a defaulter will be allowed to start, or enter the Park at Gorhambury during the races.

The Verulam Course is three miles.

The Fir Clump in is about two miles.

The Lime Kiln in is about one mile and a half.

The Cherry-tree Course is a mile and a yard, straight to the Winning-post.

The T.Y.C. is five furlongs and 136 yards.

The Stand Course, starting at the Winning-post out and in, is about two miles.

All rules and regulations at Newmarket respecting racing are to be adhered to at Gorhambury, unless otherwise specified in the article of the race, or in underwritten rules.

All stakes must be made good at Gorhambury before starting, or not entitled to win.

No public money given unless three reputed race-horses start. The colours of the riders must be declared at the time of entry, and not altered.

All disputes to be referred to the Stewards, whose decision will be final.

Matches made at this Meeting must be declared on the entrancenight, to the Clerk of the Course, that they may be inserted in the lists, unless made after that period, when they will be run the last race on the day.

Each winner to pay 17 to the Clerk of the Course. On entering or naming for any race on the entrance-night, to pay 10s. for each horse, in addition to the entrance-money.

The entry will be on the Saturday previous to the races, at the Turf Hotel, St Albans.

Gentlemen are particularly requested to keep their horses at those houses only whose landlords subscribe to the Race-fund.

TUESDAY, May the 14th.-The Craven Stakes of 10 sov. each, with 20 added from the fund; three yrs old, 6st. 121b. four, 8st. 7b. five, 9st. six and aged, 9st. 21b. Cherry-tree mile.

To name and close on the entrance-night.

The Gorhambury Handicap of 25 sov. each, 15ft. and 5 only if declared in the Newmarket First Spring Meeting, with 50 added from the fund; the winner of the Chester cup or the Newmarket stakes to carry 7b. or Suffolk stakes, 5lb. extra; Stand Course; the owner of the second horse to receive back his stake. Five to accept, or no race. The weights will be published in the intermediate week between the Craven Meeting and the First Spring Meeting.

To close and name in the Craven Meeting, to Messrs Weatherby, in London or Newmarket, or to Mr Coleman, Turf Hotel, St Albans.

The Præ Stakes of 20 sov. each, h. ft. with 50 added, for three yrs old colts, 8st. 7lb. and fillies, 8st. 4lb. the Cherry-tree mile. If more than five subscribers, the owner of the second horse to receive back his stake; winners before or after naming to carry, for once, 4lb. twice, 7lb. extra (matches and handicaps excepted). The Selling Stakes, a sweepstakes of 10 sov. each, h. ft. if declared by ten o'clock, to the Clerk of the Course, on Monday night before

running, with 50 sov. added; Stand Course; three yrs old to carry 6st. 10. four, 8st. 12lb. five, 9st. 6lb. six and aged, 9st. 10. winners twice in 1843 to carry 3lb. and thrice, 5lb. extra; winners twice in 1843 and once in 1844 to carry 5lb. extra; winners thrice in 1843 and once in 1844 to carry 7b. extra; maidens of four yrs old and upwards allowed 5lb. Horses that shall be entered subject to the condition of being sold, if demanded, &c. for 2001. shall be allowed 3lb., for 1501. 9., for 1001. 14b. and for 501. 21lb. over and above other allowances.

Declaration of selling price, and weight intended to be carried, must be made at the time of entry, at Mr Coleman's, Turf Hotel, St Albans, the entrance-night, and delivered in writing.
