Mr Jones, the owner of Reinfrid, who ran second to Garus in the Hunters' Stakes at Hereford, 1866, when the horse was knocked down to Mr Granville, objected to Garus starting for this race until he had been paid his half share of the surplus selling price. The owner of Garus lodged the money under protest, and the case was referred to the Grand National Steeple Chase Committee, who decided that the objection could not be entertained, as it had not been made within the period prescribed by Rule 67.
