On theoretical grounds the combination of phosphorus with calcium, sodium, iron and other bases have been supposed to possess a power of stimulating and regenerating the nervous system and those tissues which contain lime, etc. The Hypophosphites have in a manner displaced the phosphates, on account of the fact the phosphorus is more loosely combined in the former, and is therefore more readily assimilated.
