As a naturalized Canadian, I am glad I was able to read this book. It totally opened my eyes and allowed me to appreciate the difficulties many endured during this terrible economic ordeal. It has given me an understanding of the hardships that helped to shape the nation that Canada now is. I feel though that many have forgotten history. I recommend this book to every Canadian. Its an easy read, you will learn a lot, more than what you will learn in sitting in Social Studies class in high school. The book contains very compelling and evocative personal stories of ordinary Canadians like you and I. It is also warning against adopting unfettered laissez-faire.
