MONDAY, September 19th, 9 o'clock, A. M. The R. W. Grand Lodge convened this day, at Odd Fellows' Hall, city of Baltimore, being the regular Annual Communication, when the following were present: JOHN A. KENNEDY, HORN R. KNEASS, M. W. G. Sire. R. W. P. G. P. ROBERT NEILSON, Rep. of Maryland. Rep. of New York. It appearing that a constitutional quorum was present, the D. Grand Sire was directed to examine the Representatives. The D. Grand Sire reported that the Representatives present were duly qualified; and then by order of the Grand Sire, proclaimed the Grand Lodge duly opened for the transaction of business. The Grand Sire announced the appointment of G. M. ALBERT CASE, of South Carolina, as W. G. Chaplain. pro tem., and P. G. Sec. WILLIAM CURTIS, of Pennsylvania, as W. G. Marshal, pro tem. Prayer by the Grand Chaplain. The Grand Sire announced Rep's Neilson, of Maryland; Brandt, of New Jersey; and Guild, of Massachusetts, as the committee to examine the credentials of the Representatives. Rep. Leidy, of Delaware, presented a paper, being in the nature of a remonstrance from the Grand Lodge of Delaware, against the right of Representatives elect from Grand Encampments, to a seat in the Grand Lodge of the United States, which was read, and on motion referred to the committee to whom was referred the credentials of the Representatives. On motion of Rep. Hinman, of Connecticut, the resolution to refer the remonstrance from the Grand Lodge of Delaware to the committee on credentials, was re-considered, when the paper was ordered to lie on the table. Rep. Neilson, of Maryland, from the committee on credentials, submitted the following report. To the R. W. Grand Lodge of the United States: The committee appointed to examine the credentials of the Representatives from Grand Lodges and Grand Encampments to the Grand Lodge of the United States, have attended to that duty, and beg leave to report the brethren as duly entitled to their seats at the present communication. All of which is respectfully submitted. ROBERT NEILSON, Rep. Moore, of District of Columbia, moved that so much of the report of the committee on credentials as relates to the election of Representatives and Proxies from state Grand Lodges, be accepted. Rep. McGowan, of New York, moved to amend, by adding the words and "Grand Encampments," after the words "Grand Lodges." P. G. Sire Glazier moved as a substitute, that the Grand Lodge proceed to consider the right of the Representatives elect to seats in this body, in the order in which the states are arranged. On the question being taken on the substitute, it was decided in the negative. The question being then taken upon the amendment offered by Rep. McGowan, of New York, it was decided in the affirmative. The question recurring upon the resolution of Rep. Moore, of District of Columbia, as amended, it was determined in the affirmative. On motion, the Grand Lodge adjourned until this afternoon, at four o'clock. MONDAY, 4 o'clock, P. M. The Grand Lodge met pursuant to adjournment: Present, the same Officers and Representatives as of the morning session. The journal of proceedings of the morning session was read and approved. The Grand Secretary presented the credentials of P. G. P. Andrew C. Hewitt, Representative from the Grand Encampment of Pennsylvania, which were referred to the committee on credentials. Rep. Neilson, from the committee on credentials, reported favorably upon the credentials of Rep. Hewitt, of Pennsylvania, which was accepted. Rep. HEWITT, of Pennsylvania, then appeared and took his seat. The Grand Sire announced the appointment of the following Standing Committees. On the State of the Order.-Rep's Moore, of District of Columbia; Ridgely, of Alabama; and Hubelie, of Pennsylvania. On Petitions.-Rep's Small, of New York; Leidy, of Delaware; and Thomas, of Ohio. On Returns-Rep's Marley, of Maryland; English, of Virginia; and Bucher, of Indiana. The Grand Sire presented the following, being his Annual Report, which was read. To the R. W. Grand Lodge of the United States: In presenting to the Grand Lodge the report required under the Constitution, it is a source of gratification to the Grand Sire to be enabled to congratulate the assembled Representatives on the increasing prosperity which, in almost every portion of our jurisdiction, continues to crown the efforts made in the cause of Odd Fellowship. At no period, since the introduction of the Order into the Western Hemisphere, have we had more abundant cause to raise thankful hearts in gratitude toward a smiling Providence, which has fostered our feeble efforts in spreading abroad the principles by which we are influenced, and has returned to us the rich harvest of abundance, in strength, harmony and brotherly love. The history of our fraternity in this country has been, from the moment of its permanent establishment here, little else than the recital of a continued triumph over every impediment to successful results. In its onward march it has had to encounter various obstacles, none of which, however, proved of sufficient avail to check its progress: on the contrary, in several instances, that which at first was deemed a hindrance was found in the end to be a facility. But unfortunately, this result did not apply to every case, and the whole Order has experienced inconvenience and perplexity where it had the least reason to expect it. Among the most prolific sources of such annoyance, has been the imperfect state of official intercourse and communication with our foreign co-ordinates: more particularly with that branch of the Order in Great Britain, under the rule of the Manchester Unity. The benefit of frequent and regular intercourse with that respectable body, was a matter of early solicitude; and the advantage of it was urged on our trans-atlantic brethren, with all the earnestness of a perfect sincerity.
