devote himself specially to the business of the Lectures he attends, and to assist the Professors at such times and in such ways as the Council shall from time to time prescribe, and shall not be permitted to hold any office or employment which the Council shall consider to be incompatible with the due discharge of his college duties.

A student who has extended his attendance on the Lectures prescribed for any one year, over two Collegiate Sessions, and has passed the prescribed examinations, shall be eligible to compete for a Scholarship of the subsequent year. But a student who is extending his attendance on the Lectures prescribed for any one year, over two Collegiate Sessions, shall not be permitted to compete for a Scholarship of that year, at the commencement of the Second of such Sessions.

ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS.

Of the Two Scholarships appropriated to students of Civil Engineering—

One is confined to students of the First year.

Second year.

Candidates for the Engineering Scholarship of the First year must have passed the Matriculation Examination. Candidates for the Engineering Scholarship of the Second year must have completed their First Session, and passed the General or Supplementary Examination.

The Scholarship Examination takes place at the commencement of the first term of the Session.

AGRICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIPS.

Of the Four Scholarships appropriated to students of Agriculture-

MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIPS.

Of the SIX Junior Scholarships appropriated to students of the Faculty of Medicine

Two will be awarded to students commencing the First year of their course.

The examination for Junior Scholarships of the First year in the Faculty of Medicine is open to all students who have passed the Matriculation Examination.

The examination for Junior Scholarships of the Second and Third years in the Faculty of Medicine takes place at the commencement of the Second and Third years of the course prescribed to Matriculated students in Medicine.

Matriculated students in Medicine intending to compete for Medical Scholarships of the Second year must be of not more than one year's standing, and must have attended, subsequently to Matriculation, in some of the Queen's Colleges, or in an University capable of granting degrees in Medicine, two, at least of the following courses, viz. :— Chemistry-Botany and Zoology-Anatomy and Physiology-Materia Medica and Pharmacy-Practical Chemistry-Practical Anatomy.

Matriculated students in Medicine intending to compete for Medical Scholarships of the Third year must be of two years' standing, and not more, and must have attended, subsequently to Matriculation, in some one of the Queen's Colleges, or in an University capable of granting degrees in Medicine, four, at least, of the following courses, viz. Chemistry-Botany and Zoology-Anatomy and Physiology-Materia Medica and Pharmacy-Practical Chemistry-Practical Anatomy..

Matriculated students in Medicine intending to compete for Senior Medical Scholarships must be of three years' standing, and not more, and must, in addition to the qualifications prescribed in the preceding paragraph, have attended in their Third year, two, at least, of the following

courses, viz.: Theory and Practice of Medicine-Theory and Practice of Surgery-Midwifery and Diseases of Women and Children.

To acquire a year's Collegiate standing, the student must attend in that year, and subsequently to Matriculation, at least two of the medical classes above mentioned.

Junior Scholars in the Faculty of Medicine of the First and Second years must respectively attend during the year of their Scholarship, two, at least, of the following courses, viz. Chemistry-Botany and Zoology-Anatomy and Physiology-Materia Medica and Pharmacy-Practical Chemistry-Practical Anatomy.

Junior Scholars of the Faculty of Medicine of the Third year must attend during the year of their Scholarship, two, at least, of the following courses, viz.: Theory and Practice of Medicine-Theory and Practice of SurgeryMidwifery and Diseases of Women and Children-Medical Jurisprudence.

Senior Scholars of the Faculty of Medicine must attend during the year of their Scholarship, two, at least, of the following courses, viz.: Theory and Practice of Medicine -Theory and Practice of Surgery-Midwifery and the Diseases of Women and Children-Medical Jurisprudence.

LAW SCHOLARSHIPS.

Of the THREE Scholarships appropriated to the Faculty of Law

One will be awarded to a student of the First year.

Candidates for the Law Scholarship of the First year must have passed the Matriculation Examination and entered as students in the Faculty of Law, before presenting themselves for the Scholarship Examination.

Candidates for the Law Scholarship of the Second or Third year must have passed the Matriculation Examination, and have completed the First or Second Session of the course in the Faculty of Law, previously to presenting themselves for the Scholarship Examination.

The Scholarship Examinations will be held at the commencement of the College Session.

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS.

Of the TEN Senior Scholarships of the value of £40 each

Seven are appropriated to students who have proceeded to the degree of B.A.

Two are appropriated to students who have completed the course of study of the First, Second, and Third years, prescribed to candidates for the degree of M.D.

One is appropriated to students who have proceeded to the degree of B.A., and completed the course of legal study prescribed for the degree of LL.D.

All the Senior Scholarships are awarded by examination, and are tenable for one year only.

SENIOR SCHOLARS are required to assist the Professors in the Matriculation and Class Examinations, and in conducting the business of the special departments of literature and science to which their Scholarships severally belong, under such regulations as the Council shall prescribe.

SENIOR ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS.

Of the SEVEN Senior Scholarships appropriated to the Faculty of Arts, one is awarded for proficiency in each of the following departments

1. The Greek and Latin Languages, and Ancient History.

2. The Modern Languages and Modern History.

Of the Two Senior Scholarships appropriated to the Faculty of Medicine, one is awarded for proficiency in each of the following departments

1. Anatomy and Physiology.
2. Therapeutics and Pathology.

SENIOR LAW SCHOLARSHIP.

The Senior Law Scholarship will be awarded by examination to the most distinguished student who shall have proceeded to the Degree of Bachelor of Arts, and shall have completed the course of legal study prescribed to candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Laws in the Queen's University in Ireland.
