V. Provided always, and be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, tha or Surgeons no fuch price or recompenfe fhall be granted to fuch phyfician or furgeon, who fhall fo have inoculated the vaccine disease as aforefaid, unless he fhall previoufly lay before the faid Board, a regifter containing the age, fex, name and furname of all perfons fo innoculated, and the name of the towns or parishes, feigneuries or townships in which they respectively refide; the faid regifter, containing at the foot thereof, an affirmation on oath made before a Juftice of the Peace, that the faid regifter is correct and true, and that the perfons whole names are infcribed on the faid regifter, as having been so inoculated, have been so, to the best of his knowledge, with effect.

VI. WHEREAS

HEREAS the Rules and Orders heretofore made, touching the Police, and allo those for the government of Apprentices and others, have been productive of much public benefit; and it being expedient and right, that the fame be continued, and more ample provifion made for extending the benefits arifing from a well regulated Police; Be it therefore enacted by the King's moft excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the Legislative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of, and under the authority of an Act paffed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, "An "Act to repeal certain parts of an A&t paffed in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Act for making more effectual provifion for the government of "the Province of Quebec in North America ;" and to make more effectual provifion "for the Government of the faid Province ;" and it is hereby enacted by the authoin their General rity of the fame,that the Juftices of the Peace in their General Quarter Seffions of the thorised to frame Peace for the districts of Quebec, Montreal, and Three-Rivers respectively, fhall be, and with such fines and they are hereby authorized and empowered from time to time, to frame fuch breach of the Peace rules and orders, and with fuch fines and penalties for the breach thereof, as fhall be requisite & proper. judged requifite and proper for the regulation of the Police of the refpective cities

Provided always and be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that given, before the before any fuch rule or order fhall have effect, as aforefaid, a copy thereof, in French and Engufh, fhall be affixed and pofted up on the door of the Parish Church of the cities of Quebec and Montreal, and town of Three-Rivers refpectively, and in fuch public places, and published in fuch newspapers printed in the faid cities refpectively, as the faid Jaftices of the Peace fhall order; and that the faid rules fhall not have any force until ten days after the publication thereof; and that when fuch rules and orders fo made, altered or amended, shall have been published as aforefaid, due proof of fuch publication shall be made by affidavit, or the viva voce examination of witneffes, or otherwife, to the fatisfaction of two or more of the Juftices of His Majefty's Court of King's Bench for the faid diftricts of Quebec or Montreal refpectively, or of the Provincial Judge of His Majefty's Court of King's Bench for the district of Three-Rivers, who fhall refpectively thereupon, cause an entry to be made of record in His Majefty's Court of King's Bench for the faid diftricts of Quebec, Montreal, and Three Rivers refpectively, that fuch proof of publication was fo made, and indorse upon, or subscribe to a copy of fuch rules or orders fo made, altered, or amended, a certificate, that fuch proof has been fo made of the publication thereof, and that after fuch entry on record, and the granting of fuch certificate as aforefaid, it shall not be neceffary in any case to make proof of the publication of such rule or order, but that fuch entry on record, shall in all cases stand, and be deemed and taken to be conclufive and public proof of fuch publication, without giving the same in evidence, upon any profecution founded on fuch rules or orders, or other occafion whatsoever.

And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that in every cafe where any service or work any perfon or perfons, after twenty-four hours notice in writing left at the dwelling to which they may house of such perfon or perfons, thall refule, or negle& to do, or caufe to be done, any service or work, which by any rule or order made, approved and publifhed as aforefaid, he,fhe, or they may be required to do,it fhall and may be lawful for any of the Juftices of the Peace,before whom the complaint fhall be brought, to direct the Surveyor of Roads, or a conftable, to employ fome other perfon for a reasonable confideration, to perform fuch service or work fo refused or neglected to be done; and the perfon
