Preamble. Act 55. Geo. III. Cap. 5. continued, except so far as the this Act. CAP. IX. AN ACT to continue an Act paffed in the fifty fifth year of His Majesty's (8th March, 1817.) WHEREAS an Act was paffed in the fifty-fifth year of His Majefty's Reign, 66 intituled, “An Act to regulate perfons engaged in the bufinels or trade of baking and felling Bread within the Cities of Quebec and Montreal and in the same is altered by Town of Three-Rivers, and to repeal an Ordinance therein mentioned;" which faid A&t will expire on the first day of May of the present year, one thousand eight hundred and feventeen: And whereas it is expedient and neceffary to amend and continue the faid Act for a limited time: Be it therefore enacted by the King's, Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the Legislative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act paffed in the Parliament of GreatBritain, intituled, " An Act to repeal certain parts of an Aft paffed in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled "An Act for making more effectual provifion for "the government of the Province of Quebec in North-America;" and to make further "provifion for the government of the faid Province;" And it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, that the faid Act intituled, “ An Act to regalate perfons engaged in the business or trade of baking and felling Bread within the Cities of "Quebec and Montreal and in the Town of Three-Rivers, and to repeal an Ordi"nance therein mentioned," and all and every the matters and things in the said A&t contained, except fuch as are herein-after altered and amended, fhall continue to be in force, until the first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and nineteen, and no longer. Power of granting Licences vested by the Quarter Sessions repealed. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that fo much of the the former Act, in a forefaid Act paffed in the fif y-fifth year of His Majefty's, Reign, as declares and enas, that the power of grating licences to exercife the bulinets of trade of Baker. in the Cities of Quebec and Montreal, and. in the Town of Three Rivers, fhall be vefted in the Courts of Quarter S ffions of the Peace of the said Diftri&s of Quebec, The same power Montreal and Three-Rivers, is and the fame is hereby repealed; and that from and after the paling of this A&, fuch power fhall be vefted in the power of the Juftices of the Peace of the said Districts in their Weekly Seffions in and for the said Cities of Quebec and Montreal and in the Town of Three-Rivers, ranted to the Justicon of the Peace. Et qu'il foit deplus ftatué par l'autorité fufdite, qu'autant du fufdit acte paffé Révocation des poudans la cinquante cinquième année du Règne de Sa Majefté, qui ftatue et déclare Licenses que le preque les Cours de Seffions de Quartier de la Paix des dits Districts de Québec, de as Montréal et des Trois Rivières feront revêtues du pouvoir d'accorder des licences Quartier. pour exercer le métier de Boulanger dans les Cités de Québec et de Montréal et dans la Ville des Trois Rivières, eft et le même eft par le préfent rappellé, et qe depuis et après la pallation de cet acte, les Juges de Paix des dits diftricts feront revêtus de tels pouvoirs dans leurs Seffions Hebdomadaires dans et pour les dites Cités de Québec et de Montréal, et dans la Ville des Trois Rivières. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that every Baker or for their Bread, than Bakers or other perfon or perfons who fhail exact, demand, take or receive any greater price for his or their Bread than the affize or rate in money at which the Juftices of the Peace fhall have determined and established the fame, pursuant to the afore. faid Act, fhall upon conviction thereof, in manner and form as provided in and by the faid Act, forfeit and pay a fum not exceeding five Pounds, nor less than two Pounds, current money of this Province. AN ACT to provide temporary Houses of (8th March, 1817.) Preamble. WHEREAS for confinement and employment of all Offenders, and perfons liable to be fent to a Houfe of Correction, it is neceffary that temporary 'Houfes of Correction fhould be provided in the feveral Diftricts of this Province, until permanent Houses of Correction fhall be erected therein: Be it therefore enacted by the King's moft excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the Legislative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower Canada, constituted and affembled by virtue of, and under the authority of an A&t paffed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts of an A& paffed "in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, "An At for making more effectual Provifion for the government of the Province of Quebec in North Ame "rica ;" and to make further provifion for the Government of the faid Province;" and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, that, until Houses of Correction fhall be erected in the said several Districts respectively, it shall and may be lawful to, and for the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or perfon adminiftering the Governor empower- Government of this Province, for the time being, out of any unappropriated monies Correction are erect in the hands of the Receiver-General of this Province, which now are or shall be tain sum of money to hereafter on the hands of the Receiver General of this Province to advance to the Combe appointed to su- mittees to be appointed under and by virtue of this Act, to fuperintend the Houses of of Correction in the Correction in the faid feveral Districts refpectively, a fum not exceeding Two Hun dred Pounds, current money of this Province, for the District of Quebec; a fum not exceeding Two Hundred Pounds, like current morey for the District of Montreal; and a fum not exceeding One Hundred Pounds, like money for the District of Three Rivers; for the purposes of enabling the said Committees, or either of them, in each of the faid feveral Districts refpectively, to hire, or otherwise provide a Building, fit and proper to serve for a temporary Houfe of Correction; and also, fuch accommodations for the performance of labour, as may be requifite; and alfo to make a flock of materials for the use and employment of the perfons who fhall, or may hereafter ed until Houses of ed, to advance a cer the Committee, to perintend the Houses several Districts of the Province. be III. Et qu'il foit de plus ftatué par l'autorité fufdite, qu'aucun Boulanger ou Boulangers, ou autre Perfonne ou Perfonnes qui éxigeront, demanderont ou recevront pour fon ou leurs Pains un plus haut prix que celui fixé en argent, et qui aura été déterminé et établi par les Juges de Paix en conformité du dit acte, encourront et payeront, fur conviction de telle offense en la manière et forme tel que pourvu par le dit acte, une somme n'excédant pas cinq livres, ni moins de deux livres, ar gent courant de cette Province. CA P. X. ACTE pour pourvoir à des Maifons de Correction temporaires dans les différents District de cette Province. (8e. Mars, 1817.) Vu qu'il eft nécessaire que des Maifons de Correction temporaires foient établies dans chacun des Districts de cette Province jufqu'à ce qu'il foit érigé des Maisons de Correction permanentes pour y confiner et employer tous les délinquants et les perfonnes fujettes à être envoyées à une Maifon de Correction : Qu'il foit donc ftatué par la Très Excellente Majefté du Roi, par et de l'avis et confente ment du Confeil Législatif et de l'Affemblée de la Province du Bas-Canada, conftitués et affemblés en vertu et fous l'autorité d'un acte paffé dans le Parlement de la Grande Bretagne, intitulé, " A&e qui rappelle certaines parties d'un a&e paflfé "dans la quatorzième année du règne de Sa Majefté, intitulé, " Alte qui pourvoit plus efficacement pour le Gouvernement de la Province de Québec dans l'Amérique Septentrionale;" Et qui pourvoit plus amplement pour le Gouvernement de la dite "Province" et il eft par le présent ftatué par la dite autorité, que jufqu'à ceque des Maisons de Correction soient érigées dans les dits différents Diftricts respectivement, il fera et pourra être loifible au Gouverneur, Lieutenant Gouverneur ou à la Perfonne ayant alors l'adminiftration du Gouvernement de cette Province, d'avancer aux Comités qui feront nommés sous et en vertu de cet acte pour avoir la furintendance des Maifons de Correction dans les dits différents Districts refpectivement, sur aucuns des argents entre les mains du Receveur Général de cette Province dont il n'eft point fait d'application, qui sont mainte pant ou qui feront ci-après entre les mains du dit Receveur-Général de cette Province une somme n'excédant point deux cents Livres argent courant de cette Province, pont le Diftrict de Québec, une somme n'excédant point deux cents Livres même argent pour le District de Montréal, et une somme n'excédant point Cent Livres même argent pour le District des Trois-Rivières, afin de donner aux dits Comités ou à aucun d'eux dans chacun des dits différents Diftrics refpectivement, les moyens de louer ou autrement fe procurer une Bâtiffe propre et convenable |
