'HEREAS an Act was paffed in the fifty-first year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled "An Act for the Relief of Infane Perlons and for the fupport of "Foundlings and others therein mentioned;" which Act was continued by an Act paffed in the fifty-third year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled " An Act to continue "for a limited time, an Act paffed in the fifty-fift year of His Majeft'y Reign, " intituled "An Act for the Relief of Infane Perfons and for the fupport of Foundlings "and others therein mentioned." whereas it is expedient and neceffary further to continue the faid Act and to make more ample provilion for promoting the purposes of the faid A&t: Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefly, by and with the advice and confent of the Legiflative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower-Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of and under the authority of an A&t paffed in the Parliament of Great-Britain, intituled "An Act to repeal certain parts of an Ac "paffed in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled," An Act for 31. II. And whereas the fum of fifteen hundred pounds appropriated by the faid A& of £1500 a year of the fifty-first year of His Majefty's Reign, for the relief of Infane Perfons and for the fupport of Foundlingsand others therein mentioned, has proved infŏfficient; and that it is expedient and neceffary to apply a further fum of money to the more effect al attainment of the purposes of the faid la ft mentioned Act: Be it enacted by the authority aforefaid, that, from and after the paffing of this Act, it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Governor, Lieutenant-Governor or Perfon adminiftering the Govrnment of this Province for the time being, out of the unappropriated monies which now are in the hands of the Receiver-General or which may hereafter come into his hands, arifing from any A& or Acts of the Provincial Parliament, together with the aforefaid fum of fifteen hundred Pounds, to apply a further fum, not exceeding fifteen hundred Pounds, current money of this Province, annually, to the purposes of the aforefaid A&t of the fifty-firft year of His Majefty's Reign.

And whereas alfo is it expedient and neceffary to fix and determine the progranted, how to be portions of the fums of money to be granted for each of the Districts of Quebec, Montreal and Three-Rivers, Be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Governor, Lieutenant-Governor or Perfon adminiftering the Government of this Province for the time being, to apply both the faid fums, making in all the fum of three thousand Pounds, currency, to the extent of fifteen hundred Pounds for the District of Quebec, of one thoufand Pounds for the District of Montreal, and of five hundred Pounds for the District of Three-Rivers, to the attainment and promotion of the purposes of the aforefaid A&t of the fifty-first year of His Majefty's Reign. WHEREAS by an Act of the Provincial Parliament, made and paffed in the thirty-feventh year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, "An Act to ratify, approve, and confirm certain provifional Articles of Agreement, entered into by "the respective Commiffioners of this Province and Upper Canada, at Montreal, "on the twenty-eighth January, one thoufand seven hundred and ninety-feven, re "lative to Duties, and for carrying the fame into effect," certain provifional Articles of Agreement, or Commercial Regulations, made and agreed upon between the Commiffioners previously appointed to that intent, by Acts of the Legiflatures of the Province of Lower Canada and Upper Canada, were confirmed and enacted; which faid provitional Articles of Agreement or Commercial Regulations, with other pro vifional Articles of Agreement, made and entered into at Quebec, on the fecond day of February, in the forty-firft year of His Majefty's Reign, pursuant to like Acts of the Legiflatures of Lower Canada and Upper Canada, by an Act paffed in the fortyfirft year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, " An Act to ratify and confirm certain "provifional Articles of Agreement, entered into by the refpective Commiffioners "of this Province and of Upper Canada, at Quebec, on the fecond day of February, "one thoufand eight hundred and one, relative to Duties, and for carrying the fame "into effect; and alfo, to continue an A&t paffed in the thirty-feventh year of His Majefty's Reign," were further enacted, and continued until the first day of March, one thoufand eight hundred and five; and from thence by other fubfequent A&s, until the firft day of May, one thou fand eight hundred and fixteen, when the fame did expire.
