VU que plufieurs Habitans en détreffe par la mauvaise récolte de l'année dernière ont confommé ce qui leur étoit néceffaire pour leurs femences prochaines, afin de fe procurer une subfistance durant le cours de cette année, et ceux qui font en état de leur fournir de la femence pouvant ne pas vouloir la confier aux pauvres habitans, fans une fureté hors de toute difceffion pour le payement et rembourfe ment de telles avances à la récolte prochaine ; en conséquence, par affection et nfibilité pour les Pauvres : Qu'il foit donc ftatué, par la très excellente Majesté du Roi, par et de l'avis et confentement du Confeil Législatif et de l'Affemblée de la Préambule. C Contracts and Agreements, made between a certain period of time, for Wheat, deemed a Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act "palled in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled," An Act for mak"ing more effectual provifion for the government of the Province of Quebec in North "America;" and to make further Provifion for the government of the faid Province;" And it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, that any Contract or agree ment which fhall after the paffing of this Act, and before the twenty-fifth day, of June next, be bona fide made in writing for fupplies of Wheat, Pease, Oats, or any other Seed, Corn, or Potatoes, in the prefence of a Notary Public, or one of His Majefty's Juftices of the Peace, or a Curate of any Parish, or, a Captain of the Militia, and one other credible Witness, for any quantity of Seed Coin, not exceeding Forty minots of Wheat, and Thirty minots of other Bread, Corn, or Grain; nor Twenty minots of Potatoes, to any one Buyer or Borrower, his Debt therefore shall in all Courts, be deemed and adjudged to be a privileged Debt, with the benefit of preference to the Vender or Lender, before any other Creditor, for any demand of any kind whatsoever, any Law, ufage, or custom to the contrary notwithSaving of His Ma- ftanding; faving neverthelefs to His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, all the rights of the Crown, with its dues and demands, as full and effectually as if this Act had never been made. privileged Debt. jesty's Rights. MOST GRACIOUS SOVEREIGN, HEREAS it is expedient to provide relief for the fuffering Poor in certain Parishes in great diftrefs in the District of Quebec, owing to the total fai lure of the Harveft of laft Year; WE, therefore, your Majefty's most dutiful and Joyal Subjects, the Commons of Lower-Canada, in Provincial Parliament affem. bled, from regard and feeling for the Poor, and for the general good of the Province, most humbly befeech Your Majefty, that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the Legiflative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower Canada, constituted and af fembled by virtue of,and under the authority of an A&t paffed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, " An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act paffed in the fourteenth 66 year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, " An Act for making more effectual provifon for the government of the Province of Quebec in North America;" and to make "further Provifion for the Government of the faid Province;" And it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, that out of the unappropriated monies at pre fent Tous Contrats on serout regardés com Province du Bas-Canada, conftitués et affemblés en vertu et fous l'autorité d'un acte paffé dans le Parlement de la Grande Bretagne, intitulé," Acte qui rappelle certaines parties d'un acte paffé dans la quatorzième année du Règne de Sa Majesté, intitulé, "Acte qui pourvoit plus efficacement pour le Gouvernement de la Province de "Québec, dans l'Amérique Septentrional," et qui pourvoit plus amplement pour le "Gouvernement de la dite Province;" Et il est par le présent ftatué par l'autorité fufdite, que tout acre, contrat, ou engagement qui sera fait de bonne foi, partesqui seront faits écrit, après la paffation du préfent acte et avant le vingt-cinquième jour de Juin dans un certain tems prochain, pour obtenir un fecours de Bléd, Pois, Avoine, ou autres graines de me privilégiés. femence, ou Patates, foit en préfence d'un Notaire, d'un des Juges de Paix de Sa Majefté, ou d'un Curé de Paroiffe, ou Curé de Paroiffe, ou d'un Capitaine de Milice et d'un Témoin digne de foi, pour une quantité de femences, qui n'excédera pas quarante minots de Bled, trente minots d'autres grains et vingt minots de Patates, à un seul acheteur ou emprunteur, la dette y mentionnée fera déterminée et jugée dans toute Cour comme privilégiée, avec le bénéfice de préférence au vendeur ou préteur, avant tout autre créancier, pour toute demande de quelque nature qu'elle fait, nonobstant toute Loi, Coutume et ufage à ce contraires; Réfervant toutes fois et exceptant néanmoins à Sa Majefté, fes Héritiers et Succeffeurs tous droits de la dete Couronne avec fes privilèges et demandes d'une manière auffi ample que fi cet acte n'eut pas été fait.
