NOTE.
The recent agitation for the ownership and control by the muni-
cipality of so-called public utilities has stimulated public interest as
to the conditions of existing franchises granted by the Common
Council of the city. Ieretofore these have been scattered through
various volumes of Ordinances and Council Proceedings, but in this
volume all are collected, including two never before published. The
index has been made with great care, and as exhaustive as was deemed
necessary. The paying is identical with that of the new volume
of General Ordinances now being printed, in order to avoid mistakes
in reference.
