Section 3. In accordance with section 1, of chapter 57, of the laws of 1878, the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway Company is hereby required within three months from and after the passage of this ordinance to construct at its own expense over its tracks where the same intersect First avenue in the Fifth and Eighth wards of the city of Milwaukee, an iron viaduct with suitable abutments of masonry, the north face of the southerly abutment to be six feet south of the south rail of the south track of the railway of said railway company as at present located, crossing said avenue and the northerly abutment of the north line of Oregon street at a grade as established by section I of this ordinance. And the said viaduct shall be constructed by the said railway company in accordance with plans and specifications furnished by the said railway company and approved by the common council and on file in the office of the board of public works of the city of Milwaukee, and said railway company shall maintain the same in a safe and substantial condition at all times; provided, however, that the roadway of said viaduct shall have a width of thirty-five (35) feet and the sidewalks of eight (8) feet each, and that the planking and floor joists of wood for the roadway and sidewalks over the viaduct

AN ORDINANCE
To permanently establish the grade of the center line of a

viaduct to be constructed across the Milwaukee river
between the Sixth and Eighteenth wards of the city of
Milwaukee from the intersection of Van Buren street
with Brady street, in the Eighteenth ward, to the inter-
section of Holton street with Reservoir avenue, in the
Sixth ward, and to alter and change the established
grade of Van Buren street from Brady street to North
Water street, in the Eighteenth ward, as far as the estab-
lished grade of the viaduct will affect the same.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The grade or elevation of the center line of the viaduct to be constructed across the Milwaukee river, between the Sixth and Eighteenth wards of the city of Milwaukee, from the intersection of Van Buren street with Brady street in the Eighteenth ward to the intersection of Holton street with Reservoir avenue in the Sixth ward, is hereby fixed and permanently established as follows: Assuming as a base the level of the Milwaukee river as it was in the month of March, 1836.

Section 2. The grade of said viaduct between the points mentioned in the first section of this ordinance to be on a straight line drawn from point to point.

Width of sidewalk and roadway.

Section 3. The width of the sidewalks on each side of the viaduct is hereby fixed and permanently established at nine (9) feet, and the width of the roadway at twenty-six (26) feet.

Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances contravening the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 5. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.

AN ORDINANCE To permanently establish the grade on the proposed viaduct across the Menominee Valley on the line of Eleventh avenue and Sixteenth street, from Clybourn street to South Pierce street in the Eighth and Sixteenth wards of the city of Milwaukee.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances contravening the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Note.---The authority for building this viaduct was conferred by chapter 122, laws of 1891.

XXXII.-KIND OF MATERIAL FOR STREETS

AND SIDEWALKS, ETC.

417-AN ORDINANCE To determine the kind of material to be used in the con

struction of pavements on the roadways of the following named streets in the city of Milwaukee.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

To be paved with stone blocks.

Section 1. Whenever the roadway of the following named streets, viz.: East Water street, from Juneau avenue to Oneida street and from Mason street to East Water street bridge; Broadway, from Milwaukee river to Michigan street; Buffalo street, from Beach street to Milwaukee river; West Water street and Third street from Menominee river to Cherry street; Chestnut street, from Milwaukee river to Tenth street; Reed street, from National avenue to Menominee river; Ferry street; Clinton street, from South Water street to Greenfield avenue; South Water street, from Reed street to Lake street; Lake street from Reed street to Broadway bridge, shall need paving or repairing, the material used shall be of stone blocks, approved by the board of public works, said stone blocks not to be less than six inches in depth, laid on a well prepared bed of broken stone or gravel, or both, not less than ten inches in depth, the same to be thoroughly and compactly rolled by a steam roller, and to be made according to specifications of the city engineer.
