Bridges to be turned by electricity.

AN ORDINANCE
To amend an ordinance entitled, "An ordinance granting

certain rights to the Badger Illuminating Company."

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. An ordinance passed November 21, 1885, granting certain rights to the Badger Illuminating Company is hereby amended by adding the following words to section 9 thereof, to-wit: Provided, nothing in this ordinance shall prohibit the Badger Illuminating Company from assigning its interests or consolidating with the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Milwaukee; and, provided further, that this ordinance is granted upon condition that said consolidated company shall furnish the power necessary to turn the following bridges in the city of Milwaukee, viz.: Broadway, East Water, West Water, Buffalo, Huron, Michigan, Grand avenue, Oneida, State and Chestnut, and shall furnish such power whenever the common council shall by resolution direct, free of charge to the city of Milwaukee. And if said companies so consolidated shall fail at any time to furnish the requisite power as herein provided, such failure shall be considered a forfeiture of all their franchises.

To authorize the Badger Illuminating Company to erect

a frame addition to their building, corner of Third and
Commerce streets, in the Second ward of the city of
Milwaukee.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Erection of frame building permitted.

Section 1. The inspector of buildings be and is hereby authorized and directed to issue a permit to the Badger Illuminating Company to erect a frame addition to their building, corner Third and Commerce streets, in the Second ward of the city of Milwaukee. Said addition to be sheathed with corrogated iron and to have a tar and gravel roof, and not to be over 18x40 feet ground dimensions, and not over 16 feet high.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.

XXIII -- EDISON ELECTRIC ILLUMINATING

COMPANY

AN ORDINANCE
Granting certain rights to the Edison Electric Illuminat-

ing Company of Milwaukee.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Right to construct Milwaukee, a corporation organized under and by virtue lines of wires, etc. of the laws of Wisconsin, having its principal office in Milwaukee, its successors and assigns, is hereby authorized to construct and maintain in the streets, alleys, tunnels and public grounds of the city of Milwaukee, a line or lines of wires or other electric conductors to be used for the transmission of electricity generated and supplied by the Edison system of arc and incandescent lighting or such other system as the common council may approve for the purpose of furnishing light, heat, power and signals.

Section 2. The lines in the districts hereinafter named, Lines to be underexcept loops to lamps whenever they pass in any part of ground. any street or alley, in the direction of such street or alley, shall be under ground. When they cross any alley, they shall be under ground, unless permission be given by the board of public works to have them strung overhead, and whenever carried over other private property they shall be constructed in such manner as shall be satisfactory to the board of public works and chief of the fire department. They shall in all cases be properly insulated and all loops to buildings shall be supplied with switches, at least one to every half block,

WEST SIDE.

Grand avenue entire, State street from river to Twentieth; Chestnut street frim river to Twentieth; Winnebago street from Chestnut to Vliet; Vliet street from Winnebago to Twentieth; Galena street from Third to Twentieth; Walnut street from Third to Twentieth; West Water street entire; Second street entire; Third street entire; Twelfth street entire and the district bounded by Fourth street from Fowler street north to Reservoir avenue, thence east to river; thence folllowing the river south to Fowler street; thence west to the place of beginning. Also the district bounded as follows: The Milwaukee river on the east, Twelfth street (inclusive) on the west, Fowler street on the south and Cedar street on the north.

SOUTH SIDE.
