Section 2 of an ordinance entitled, "An ordinance granting certain rights to the Badger Illuminating Company," passed Nov. 21, 1885, is hereby amended by inserting after the words "conductors upon poles," where the said words first occur after the words "south side," the following: The Badger Illuminating Company is hereby prohibited from placing poles in any block in any street of the south division for the sole purpose of illuminating a parallel street by looping from one street to the other, otherwise to have the privileges heretofore granted and exercised. The said Badger Illuminating Company is hereby authorized and empowered to stretch its conductors on poles in the Fourth ward along Clybourn street from Fifth street to Thirteenth street and along St. Paul avenue from Sixth street to the west line of blocks numbered 194 and 195; provided, that the common council reserves the right by resolution to cause any of such conductors on the streets herein named, or any part thereof to be laid under ground at the expense of the said Badger Illuminating Company at any time hereafter that said common council may deem proper. An ordinance passed November 21, 1885, granting certain rights to the Badger Illuminating Company is hereby amended by adding the following words to section 9 thereof, to-wit: Provided, nothing in this ordinance shall prohibit the Badger Illuminating Company from assigning its interests or consolidating with the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of Milwaukee; and, provided further, that this ordinance is granted upon condition that said consolidated company shall furnish the power necessary to turn the following bridges in the city of Milwaukee, viz.: Broadway, East Water, West Water, Buffalo, Huron, Michigan, Grand avenue, Oneida, State and Chestnut, and shall furnish such power whenever the common council shall by resolution direct, free of charge to the city of Milwaukee. And if said companies so consolidated shall fail at any time to furnish the requisite power as herein provided, such failure shall be considered a forfeiture of all their franchises.
