AN ORDINANCE

To amend an ordinance entitled an ordinance granting certain rights and privileges to the Badger Illuminating Company of Milwaukee.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The first paragraph of section 2 of said Wires over alleys ordinance is hereby amended so as to read as follows: "Section 2," the lines in the districts hereinafter named, except loops to lamps, whenever they pass in any part of any street or alley in the direction of such street or alley shall be under ground. When they cross any alley they shall be under ground, unless permission be given by the board of public works to have them strung overhead. Wherever such lines are carried over private buildings of any sort they shall be supported at least nine feet clear from the roofs of such buildings, and wherever carried over other private property, they shall be constructed in such manner as shall be satisfactory to the board of public works, and chief of the fire department. They shall in all cases be properly insulated and all loops to buildings shall be supplied with switches, at least one to every half block, arranged so that firemen can cut off the current in case of fire.

Whenever said company shall desire to extend its lines Plan. in any of said districts over or along any street or alley of said city, it shall prepare a plan showing the mode of extension proposed and submit the same to the chief of fire department and board of public works, who shall, if they approve the same, endorse their approval thereon, and the same shall be filed with the city clerk. If they do not approve such plan, they shall take such modifications thereof as they deem proper and approve the same as modified, and the same as modified shall be filed with the city clerk, and such extension shall be made agreeably to the plan so approved, and shall be constructed under the supervision of the board of public works or such other officer or department of the city government as may here

Section 2. The seventh paragraph of said section 2 of said ordinance shall be and the same is hereby amended by striking out the words, "over the center," and substituting therefor the words, "along the sides."

AN ORDINANCE

To amend an ordinance entitled "An ordinance granting certain rights and privileges to the Badger Illuminating Company of Milwaukee."

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The said Badger Illuminating Company is hereby authorized and empowered to stretch its conductors on poles along Fifth street, from Cedar street to Fowler street, provided that the common council reserves the right to cause such conductors on Fifth street, or any part thereof, to be laid under ground at the expense of said Badger Illuminating Company, at any time hereafter said common council may deem proper. And further provided, that said Badger Illuminating Company be required to lay a cable across the Menominee river to allow the erection and maintenance of lights by said company on the south side of said city, before erecting any poles on Fifth street, otherwise the provisions of this ordinance to be null and void.

Section 2. All parts of ordinances in so far as they may contravene any of the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.

AN ORDINANCE

To amend an ordinance entitled "An ordinance granting certain rights to the Badger Illuminating Company.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The said Badger Illuminating Company is To erect poles on hereby authorized and empowered to stretch its conduct- certain streets. ors on poles from Fourth street to Third street on all intersecting streets or alleys from and including Cedar street on the south to and including Reservoir avenue on the north; also on Vliet street, from Eleventh street to Twelfth street, provided, that the common council reserves the right to cause such conductors to be laid under ground on any street or alley, at the expense of said Badger Illuminating Company, at any time hereafter that said common council may deem proper.

Section 2. All parts of ordinances, in so far as they may contravene any of the provisions of this ordinance, are hereby repealed.

Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication. Passed July 16, 1888.

To amend an ordinance entitled "An ordinance granting certain rights to the Badger Illuminating Company."

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Conductors

Section 1. The said Badger Illuminating Company is hereby authorized and empowered to stretch its conduct- allowed on certain streets. ors on poles along the following named streets and alleys on the south side, viz.: Florida street from First avenue to Grove street alley running north and south between Reed and Hanover streets from Florida street to South Water street, Oregon street from said alley to Reed street, South Water street from said alley to Reed street: provided, that the common council reserves the right to cause such conductors to be laid under ground on any of said streets and alleys at the expense of said Badger Illuminating Company, at any time hereafter that said. common council may deem proper.

Section 2. All parts of ordinances in as far as they may contravene any of the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

AN ORDINANCE

To amend an ordinance entitled "An ordinance granting certain rights to the Badger Illuminating Company."

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. Section 1 of said ordinance is hereby amended by striking out the words "of electric light," where they occur in the tenth line of said section, and further, by striking out the words, "decide to adopt," where they occur in the eleventh line of said section, and substituting therefor the word, "approve," so that said section as amended shall read as follows: Section 1. The Badger Illuminating Company, a corporation organized under and by virtue of the laws of Wisconsin, having its principal office in Milwaukee, its successors and assigns, is hereby authorized to construct and maintain in the streets, alleys, tunnels and public grounds of the city of Milwaukee, a line or lines of wire or other electric conductors to be used for the transmission of electricity, generated and supplied by the Thomson-Houston improved system of arc and incandescent lighting or such other system as the common council may approve, for the purpose of furnishing light, heat, power and signals.

Section 2. Section 4 of said ordinance is hereby amended by adding thereto and at the end thereof, the following clause: The said company, however, in carrying out the directions of the common council as contemplated in this section, shall have the right and option to build its own conduit on such streets, and place and operate its wires therein.

Section 3. Section 6 of said ordinance is hereby amended by striking out all between the word "exceed," where it occurs in the seventh line of said section, and the word "whenever," where it occurs in the fifteenth line of said section and substituting therefor the words, "the maximum price of $150.00 per year for each arc light of two thousand nominal candle power, and further, by striking out the word "ninety," where it occurs in the twenty-fourth line of said section, and substituting therefor the word "fifty," so that said section as amended shall read as follows: Section 6. The Badger Illuminating Company shall extend its conductors so as to supply any light or lights that may be ordered by the common council of the

city of Milwaukee, or the proper city officials, and shall supply the same in the streets and alleys in which the lines of conductors of such company are under ground, at a price as agreed by contract, but not to exceed the maximum price of $150.00 per year for each arc light of two thousand nominal candle power. Whenever the common council of the city of Milwaukee, or the proper city officials shall order any light or lights in any street, alley or public place, to which light may be conducted by wires stretched upon poles, then said company shall within thirty days put up and maintain such light or lights of the power above mentioned, during the entire night, every night in the year, at such price as may be agreed by contract, but not to exceed one hundred and fifty dollars per annum for each light of two thousand candle power. All the lights mentioned in this section shall run and be in operation from early twilight in the evening to daylight in the morning.

Section 4. Section 7 of said ordinance is hereby amended by inserting the word "standard" between the words "for" and "lights," where they occur in the first line of said section; by inserting the word "such" between the words "for" and "lights," where they occur in the fourth line of said section, and by inserting the word. "similar" between the words "of" and "lights," where they occur in the sixth line of said section, so that said section as amended shall read as follows: Section 7. All charges for standard lights furnished by said company, except those furnished to the city, shall be uniform in price throughout the whole city, and in no case shall a higher price be charged by said company for such lights to any consumer, in any part of the city, than the lowest price for which the same number of similar lights is furnished by the company to any other consumer in any other part of the city. Said company shall furnish light to all persons who shall pay for the same monthly, and who shall reside upon a street, alley or public way in which the conductors of said company are maintained.

Section 5. Section 8 of said ordinance is hereby amended by striking out the words "alter, modify or repeal," where they occur in the second and third lines of said section, and by striking out all after the word "time." where it occurs in the third line of said section, so that
