company at the intersection of North avenue and Farwell avenue, in the Eighteenth ward of said city, and extending thence west on and along said North avenue to the bridge over the Milwaukee river, connecting the Eighteenth and Thirteenth wards of said city, thence on and along and over said bridge to North avenue, in the Thirteenth ward of said city, thence on and along said North avenue west to its intersection with Humboldt avenue, in said Thirteenth ward, thence on and along said Humboldt avenue to its intersection with Lee street, thence on and along Lee street to its intersection with Holton street, thence south on Holton street to its intersection with North avenue, thence west on and along said North avenue to western limits of the city of Milwaukee as now constituted.

Section 2. The eighth section of said ordinance is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

Section 8. The rate of fare upon the herein located line shall not exceed five cents, except when cars and carriages shall be chartered at a special price, but before any car or carriage shall be used and operated, said company, its successors and assigns, shall pay to the city for each of its cars and carriages, the annual license fee now provided for, or as may be hereafter provided by ordinance."

Section 3. The sixth section of said ordinance is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

"Section 6. Said Milwaukee and Whitefish Bay Railway Company, its successors and assigns, shall commence work as contemplated herein, in good faith, within thirty days after the passage and publication of this ordinance so much of said line as lies between Farwell avenue and Fond du Lac avenue."

Section 4. The eleventh section of said ordinance is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

"Section 11. Said Milwaukee & Whitefish Bay Railway Company, its successors and assigns, shall not deposit or cause to be deposited any snow or ice removed from its tracks or roadbed, upon the street or streets adjacent thereto, so as to impede travel, and in case the snow and ice at any time removed from its roadbed or tracks shall, in the opinion of the board of public works, create any obstruction to travel upon said streets, the said board of

public works may cause such ice and snow to be removed from said streets at the cost and expense of said company." Passed June 29, 1891.

AN ORDINANCE

To repeal the franchise granted to the Milwaukee & Whitefish Bay Railway Company, from Twenty-first street to Washington avenue, in the city of Milwaukee, on North avenue.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The provision of any ordinance of the city of Milwaukee, by which the Milwaukee & Whitefish Bay Railway Company was authorized to lay and maintain a track or tracks on North avenue, from Twenty-first street to Washington avenue, in the city of Milwaukee, is hereby repealed.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.

AN ORDINANCE

To compel the Milwaukee Street Railway Company to avoid interference with the fire department by the equipment of its lines with electricity in a certain.

manner.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. In all future equipment with electricity of Center poles to be lines now owned by it, or hereafter owned by it, the Mil- used. waukee Street Railway Company shall place its poles "with brackets connected to their tops and at right angles to the tracks, and of such length that the trolley or feed wires may be fastened from them over the center of the tracks," in the center of the streets, and not at the curbs, except at corners where the lines turn, where poles may be also placed at the curb line, provided,, that upon such streets as may be designated by the chief of the fire depart

ment, the said company may place its poles at the curb line.

Said company shall carefully and in a workmanlike manner, place its trolley and feed wires upon said poles. and shall protect the same from other wires by a suitable and proper wire of sufficient size over said trolley or feed wires.

Section 2. Nothing herein contained shall be construed as repealing an ordinance entitled: "An ordinance granting certain rights to the Milwaukee City Railway Company, to the Cream City Railroad Company and to the West Side Railroad Company respectively, and amending the respective ordinances granting them certain rights in the city of Milwaukee," passed October 14, 1889, except insofar as the provisions of that ordinance are inconsistent, then to that extent such ordinance is repealed.

Third street.

49-AN ORDINANCE

To authorize the Milwaukee Street Railway Company to extend its tracks.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The Milwaukee Street Railway Company, its successors and assigns, is hereby authorized to extend its railway, by a double track, with all necessary switches and turn-tables from its present terminus at the intersection of Third and Sycamore streets, south on Third street to the present terminus of its line on Third street, near the depot of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad, in the Fourth ward of the city of Milwaukee, for and during term commencing with the passage of this ordinance and ending July 1, 1924.

89-AN ORDINANCE

To authorize the Milwaukee Street Railway Company, and its successors and assigns of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to construct and operate its railway on certain streets and roads.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The Milwaukee Street Railway Company and its successors and assigns, is hereby authorized to construct and operate its railway across, along and upon certain streets and roads in the city of Milwaukee, as follows:

From the terminus of its present track at or near the intersection of Third and Burleigh streets, northwesterly

along the Green Bay road, so-called, to the city limits, and Green Bay road. on the Washington road, so-called, from the intersection Washington road. from the Green Bay road, aforesaid, northerly, to the city

limits, construction of the lines hereby authorized to be commenced as soon as the grade shall have been established and the streets made to conform to the said grade. Passed June 29, 1891.

146-AN ORDINANCE

Authorizing the Milwaukee Street Railway Company and its successors and assigns of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to construct and operate its railways on certain streets and roads.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The Milwaukee Street Railway Company and its successors and assigns, is hereby authorized to construct and operate its railway across, along and upon certain streets in the city of Milwaukee, as follows:

From the intersection of Russell avenue and Ellen street, southeasterly on said Ellen street to its intersection with Nock street, said line to be built to the intersection of Ellen and Nock streets aforesaid on or before December 31, 1891, and when such line shall have been completed to the corner of Ellen and Nock streets, the said Milwaukee Street Car Company shall have the privilege to

take up its tracks and cease to operate its line on said Russell avenue from Ellen street northeasterly to Superior street, as now operated by them.

Section 2. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and publication.

188-AN ORDINANCE

To authorize the Milwaukee Street Railway Company, its successors and assigns to extend its tracks on certain streets mentioned therein, and for other purposes.

The mayor and common council of the city of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Section 1. The Milwaukee Street Railway Company, its successors and assigns, are hereby authorized to extend its present tracks at the corner of Center and Teutonia streets, along Center street, westerly to Seventeenth street, thence northrly on Seventeenth street to the Hopkins road (so-called), thence northwesterly on the Hopkins road to the city limits.

Section 2. This ordinance is passed on the condition and subject to the agreement upon the part of the Milwaukee Street Railway Company that it will surrender any and all rights which it may have to place its tracks upon Teutonia street, heretofore mentioned, from its intersection with Center street north to the city limits, and the building of the lines granted by this ordinance are accepted and agreed to on the part of the said Milwaukee Street Railway Company as an acceptance of the conditions imposed in this section.

193-AN ORDINANCE
