Theology in Folk Culture: The Theological Significance of Haitian Folk ReligionThe theology which has for long monopolized the world scene is a reflection of God-talk by people of the rich western nations. By contrast, the religious experiences of people within the poorer countries have often been regarded as having little or nothing worthwhile to contribute to the mainstream of theological scholar- ship. As such, there is a need for theologians of the developed world as well as those from the so-called «third» world to appreciate the wealth of theological insights which emanate from folk cultures across the world. A truly multicultural approach to theology will emerge only when we admit that each culture has something unique to offer in our understanding of God. |
