In Vulpecula is the famous "Dumb-bell" Nebula, generally considered irresolvable, although under the higher powers of Lord Rosse's telescope there seemed to be some trace of resolvability shown: it is nearly halfway between 8 Cygni and the Dolphin, close to the star 14 Vulpeculæ. The sky in the vicinity of this Nebula is very rich in stars and will well repay a complete 33 42 59 46 5 40 58 25 18 examination. The best evenings in this month for observation are those about the 18th. There is a small bright globular cluster below the Dolphin's tail, consisting of a mass of very small stars, not very easy for small telescopes; it is situated in R.A. 20h. 28m. 268., and Decl. 7° 1 N. This cluster is a good one, according to Sir John Herschel, for testing the space-penetrating power of telescopes. This though a small is yet a bright cluster, and may be observed easily in the evenings immediately before and after the 18th. 1887. DAY OF Light Dark SEPTEMBER XXX DAYS. 1Th St. Giles.
