CHAP. 195.

AN ACT to incorporate the Allegany mutual insurance com

pany.

Passed April 13, 1837.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

§1. Jesse Angel, Benedict Bagley, Ezra Smith, Edward Corporation H. Johnson, Richard Charles, Augustus A. Camman, Gilbert B. Champlin, William A. Kirkpatrick, Orleton F. Messenger, Milton McCall, Ransom Loyd, Lawrence Hull, Hiram Wilson, John B. Church and Samuel King, and all other persons who may hereafter associate with them in the manner hereinafter prescribed, shall be a corporation by the name of "The Allegany Mutual Insurance Company," for the purpose of insuring their respective dwelling-houses, stores, shops and other buildings, household furniture, merchandize and other property, against loss or damage by fire. §2. The persons named in the first section of this act, shall be the first directors of the said corporation. The business of the said corporation shall be carried on and conducted at such place in the village of Angelica, in the county of Allegany, as shall be designated by a majority of the directors thereof present at any regular meeting.

§3. The corporation hereby created shall possess all the General powers and privileges, and be subject to all the restrictions powers. and limitations which are granted to or imposed upon "The Madison County Mutual Insurance Company," by the act incorporating that company, which was passed March 23d,

1836.

§ 4. This act shall take effect on the passage thereof.

CHAP. 196.

AN ACT to confirm the official acts of John A. Nichols, a justice of the peace, of the county of Tioga

§3. The passage of this act shall not effect or impair any suit or legal proceeding that may have been had or commenced in consequence of the invalidity of any proceedings before such justice.

CHAP. 197.

AN ACT authorizing a tax upon the town of Rome, for the improvement of roads and bridges in said town.

Passed April 13, 1837.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

§ 1. It shall and may be lawful for the freeholders and inhabitants of the town of Rome, in the county of Oneida, qualified to vote at town meetings in said town, at their annual town meetings, to direct that a tax not exceeding the sum of five hundred dollars in any one year, in addition to the sum now authorized by law to be levied, shall be levied upon the taxable inhabitants of said town, in the same manner as other town charges are levied and raised, for the repair of roads and bridges in said town.

§ 2. The board of supervisors of the county of Oneida are directed at their next meeting to cause the sum of five hundred dollars, in addition to the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars now authorized by law, to be levied upon said town, according to the resolution of the said town, passed at their annual town meeting; which sum, when collected, shall be paid to the commissioners of highways of said town, to be by them expended upon the repairs of roads and bridges therein.

Whenever the freeholders and inhabitants of the said made. town shall have directed the levy of any sum of money in pursuance of the first section of this act, it shall be the duty of the board of supervisors of said county, to cause the sum so directed to be levied, to be assessed, levied and collected upon said town, in the same manner as other town charges of said town are directed to be collected. § 4. This act shall take effect on its passage.

CHAP. 198.

AN ACT for the relief of the Long Island insurance com

pany.

Passed April 13, 1837.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

The directors of the Long Island insurance company Inspectors are hereby authorized at a regular or special meeting of their board, to appoint three persons as inspectors to act at the next election of directors in said company, and fill any vacancy. or vacancies that may occur after such appoint

ment.

§ 2. This act shall take effect on its passage.

CHAP. 199.

AN ACT for the relief of the executors of the last will and testament of John Ireland, deceased.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

CHAP. 200.

AN ACT concerning the compensation of the superintendent of common schools.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

tional sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars per annum; and for additional clerk hire in his several departments the sum of six hundred dollars per annum, for the expenditure whereof he shall account to the comptroller; the said additional compensation to be paid in quarterly payments, to commence with the current fiscal year.

CHAP. 201.

AN ACT to increase the capital stock of the Lockport manufacturing company.

Passed April 15, 1837.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

§ 1. The capital stock of the Lockport manufacturing company is hereby increased to the sum of one hundred thousand dollars; and the president and trustees of said company shall issue certificates of stock for eight hundred shares, of fifty dollars each, for the additional stock hereby authorized to be created.

§ 2. The trustees of said company shall distribute and dispose of the said new stock to such persons and in such manner as they may deem most advantageous to the interests of the company.

CHAP. 202.

AN ACT authorizing Wilhelmus A. Ostrander to change his

name.

Passed April 15, 1837.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Se nate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

§ 1. Wilhelmus A. Ostrander, of the town of Ghent, county of Columbia, is hereby authorized to assume and take the name of William A. Ostrander.

§ 2. This act shall take effect on the

CHAP. 203.

AN ACT to amend the act, entitled "An act to incorporate the Saratoga academy and scientific institute,” passed April 28, 1835.

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

CHAP. 204.

AN ACT to continue in force for a limited period the act, entitled "An act relating to the relief and support of the poor in the city and county of Albany."

The People of the State of New-York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

The act mentioned in the title hereto is continued Act con in force for three years from the first day of May next; years. and any contract made between the board of supervisors of the county of Albany and the mayor, aldermen and commonalty of the city of Albany, for the support of the poor, transient and resident in said city and county, under the said act, shall continue to be valid and effectual for the said time.

§ 2. It shall not be neccessary for any overseer of the Temporary poor of the said county to obtain an order of a justice of the relief. peace to authorize him to grant temporary relief to the amount mentioned in the said act, and so much of the fifth section thereof as requires such order is hereby repealed.
