About the author (2009)

Dianne Hales is one of the country's most widely published authors of books & articles on health subjects. Her husband, Robert E. Hales, M.D., is a nationally renowned psychiatrist. He is professor & chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, Davis, & the author of more than 125 scientific publications. Together, they are also the co-authors of the definitive, award-winning reference work "Caring for the Mind: The Comprehensive Guide to Mental Health." Lara Lauzon is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education at the University of Victoria. Her teaching and research focus is human wellness and potential and active health. She has worked for non-profit, municipal, provincial and private health and fitness agencies. Lara co-produced and hosted a long running internationally syndicated health and fitness show called Body Moves. She has won many awards including a Faculty of Education Teaching Excellence Award, a Graduate Student Award for Teaching Excellence, the Victoria 'Y' Women of Distinction of Award for the fitness and health category, the B.C. Promotion Plus Leadership Award for promotion of girls and women in fitness and sport, a B.C. Paraplegic Association Award for the production of two fitness videos for persons with disabilities, and a Community Wellness Award. She has written numerous fitness and health columns for newspapers and magazines and has published a number of fitness and health journal articles. Lara has co-authored a textbook titled An Invitation to Health, First Canadian edition along with Diane Hales, and is also a popular keynote speaker and workshop presenter.
