H. S. CROPPER & CO.'S

Patent “Minerva '

Minerva Printing Machine.

THIS IS THE MOST COMPACT, ELEGANT, AND SPEEDY PLATEN MACHINE EVER MADE.

Britannia Machine Printing Works,
St. Leonards-on-Sea,
Messrs. H. S. CROPPER & Co.

March 17, 1869. Gentlemen,-Some time ago we had, through Messrs. Hughes and Kimber, one of your fcap. "Minervas." We are so very pleased with its performance in black and colour work, on enamel and plain cards, on stout or thin paper-that we trust our entirely unsolicited testimonial may be accepted by you as the grateful expression of a Printer to the Inventor of a small machine that will do good work. We state it as a simple fact that we engage to print on the "Minerva " the very finest work a press is capable of producing, since a more perfect "touch impression," or a more thorough distribution of ink could not be obtained. No printing office with any pretension ought to be without it, especially where competition forces a reduction of prices. Assuring you that our motive in sending you these few lines is simply to acknowledge the worth of your useful and ingenious invention.

We are, Gentlemen, yours very obediently,

BURG & DANIEL.

3 & 4, Ivy-lane, Paternoster-row, London, Messrs. H. S. CROPPER & Co. March 27, 1869. Gentlemen,-Having had considerable experience with the "Minerva " machine for the last two years, I feel great pleasure in testifying to its very great economy and speed, and can with confidence pronounce it to be by far the simplest, most effective, and best made treadle machine ever introduced into a jobbing office. The three machines I have are in constant use, producing really capital work. Yours faithfully, P. GRANT.

Midland Place, Derby, May 11, 1869. Messrs. H. S. CROPPER & Co.

Gentlemen,-We write to say that we have started the Demy Folio Machine at 1,620 per hour, but regret that we have not put it on at 1,800 impressions per hour, as we believe that speed is about the right one for general work. We run the small Machine at 1,860 per hour for general work. We enclose a sample of the work, on the larger Machine. Yours truly, W. BEMROSE & SONS.

They are permanently soft and elastic.

5. They can be used immediately after being washed.

PATENT IMPROVED

Lithographic Cylinder Gripper Machine,

For Chromo, Chalk, or ordinary work, capable of producing from 500 to 1,000 Impressions per Hour.

The ADVANTAGES of the LITHOGRAPHIC MACHINE may be briefly stated as, 1. FACILITY IN MAKING READY.-Owing to the great simplicity of the mechanical arrangements, and entire absence of complex movements, the stone can be adjusted with perfect ease-in fact, the time required is scarcely more than on an ordinary Press, thus enabling short numbers to be worked with economy.

2. THE ROLLERS being made from the very best French leather, great uniformity of pressure is obtained, causing so little damage to the work on the stone as to allow as many as 20,000 impressions to be taken from a single transfer. In many cases the quantity printed has far exceeded that number.

3. VARYING SPEEDS.-A pair of Cone Pulleys and Countershaft, &c., may be used, by means of which the Printer can change the speed, so as to yield any given number of impressions per hour.

4. THE INKING APPARATUS is entirely self-acting, and the damping as nearly so as experience warrants. If desired, the damping can be entirely self-acting; but it is open to many objections, especially in the fine descriptions of colour work. The supply of ink is varied at will with the greatest nicety.

5. REGISTERING COLOUR WORK.-In registering colour work, points on the Cylinder and guides on the Feed-table are used; the Cylinder stopping at every revolution sufficient time to enable the layer-on to point with the greatest accuracy. The position of the Feed-table and the stopping of the Cylinder are peculiar to this Machine alone.

6. STONE NEVER LOST SIGHT OF.-The Stone is never lost sight of by the Printer. This very great advantage is possessed by no other Machine.

This Machine is extensively used in London, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin, Belfast, Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Bradford, &c., and is manufactured in sizes for Printing Stones, varying from 24 x 18 up to 40 x 60. Full particulars on application to
