AN ORDINANCE

Authorizing the opening of a twenty-foot alley, from John P. Ford's property to Shimmer Street, Eleventh Ward.

SECTION 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the Select and Common Councils of the City of Allegheny, and it is hereby ordained and enacted by authority of the same, That a twenty-foot alley be and is hereby opened, of a width of twenty feet, from John P. Ford's property to Shimmer Street, Eleventh Ward, according to accompanying plan, and that William A. Sipe, Dr. W. J. Langfitt and William H. Slack, freeholders, be and they are hereby appointed viewers to view the premises, appraise the damages, and make assessments of benefits, as provided by act of Assembly, approved the 1st of April, 1870, entitled "An Act relative to streets in the City of Allegheny."

Ordained and enacted into a law in Councils this 19th day of January, A. D. 1882.

AN ORDINANCE

Authorizing the grading, paving and curbing of Hanover Street, from Preble Avenue to the P., Ft. W. & C. Railway.

SECTION 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the Select and Common Councils of the City of Allegheny, and it is hereby ordained and enacted by authority of the same, That the Committee on Streets be and they are hereby authorized and directed to invite and receive proposals for the grading, paving and curbing of Hanover Street, from Preble Avenue to the Pittsburgh, Ft. Wayne and Chicago Railway, according to accompanying plan, and to contract therefor with the lowest and best bidder or bidders, at their discretion.

SEC. 2. That for defraying the cost and expenses of the same, there is hereby levied a special assessment (said assess

ment to be made and collected as provided by the act of Assembly, entitled "An Act relative to Streets in the City of Allegheny," approved April 1st, 1870).

SEC. 3. That so much of any ordinance as may conflict with or be supplied by the foregoing, be and the same is hereby repealed.

Ordained and enacted into a law in Councils this 9th day of February, A. D. 1882.

AN ORDINANCE

Fixing the width of cartway and foot pavement on Balkam Street, from Robinson Street to Lacock Street.

SECTION 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the Select and Common Councils of the City of Allegheny, and it is hereby ordained and enacted by authority of the same, That the cartway on Balkam Street, from Robinson Street to Lacock Street, be and is hereby fixed of a width of seventeen to seventeen and a half feet, and the foot pavement on east side of said cartway be and is hereby fixed of a width of seven feet six inches (7 ft. 6 in.)

Sec. 2. That so much of any ordinance as may conflict. with or be supplied by the foregoing, be and the same is hereby repealed.

Ordained and enacted into a law in Councils this 9th day February, A. D. 1882.

AN ORDINANCE

Amending Section 5th of an Ordinance entitled "Switches and Turnouts," page 190, City Code.

SECTION 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the Select and Common Councils of the City of Allegheny, and it is hereby ordained and enacted by authority of the same, That Section

5 of an ordinance relative to switches and turnouts, City Code, page 190, which is as follows, viz.: "That the person or company to whom a license may be granted as hereinbefore provided, shall, before obtaining the same, pay to the Treasurer for the use of the City the sum of seventy-five dollars," is hereby amended as follows, viz.: Before obtaining a license as aforesaid, the party so obtaining the same shall pay to the City Treasurer, for the use of the City, the sum of twenty-five dollars, and the same sum annually thereafter, in advance.

SEC. 2. That so much of any ordinance as may conflict with or be supplied by the foregoing, be and the same is hereby repealed.

Ordained and enacted into a law in Councils this 9th day of February, A. D. 1882.

AN ORDINANCE

Levying Taxes and making Appropriations for the year 1882.

SECTION 1. Be it ordained and enacted by the Select and Common Councils of the City of Allegheny, and it is hereby ordained and enacted by authority of the same, That for the purpose of providing sufficient revenue to meet the ordinary expenses of the City, to pay interest on outstanding bonds, and to discharge all other liabilities due, or which may become payable during the said year 1882, taxes shall be and are hereby levied and assessed upon all property and other objects of taxation as follows, viz.: Upon all persons and property taxable for State and County purposes in and of the City of Allegheny, a tax of four and one-half (43) mills on the County valuation for the use of the City aforesaid; also upon all property taxable for State and County purposes, exclusive of improvements, a tax of one and eight tenths (1) mills for sewerage purposes; also upon all property and per

sons taxable for State and County purposes, a tax of one (1) mill for the support of the poor of the City; also there is assessed and levied upon all sales of goods, wares, merchandise, and upon all articles of trade and commerce, sold in said City by auction, commission merchants or otherwise, a tax of one (1) mill on each dollar of said sales; also upon all persons and property taxable for State and County purposes, a tax of one-fourth (4) of one mill, for the purpose of creating a Sinking Fund for the gradual extinguishment of all bonds and funded debt of the City, not otherwise provided for, and to be known as the Sinking Fund Tax, and shall be applied toward the extinguishment of said bonds and funded debt, and to no other purpose whatever, as provided for by the Act of Assembly, approved March 23, 1877.

SEC. 2. That the schedule of Water Rents for the year 1882 shall remain the same as fixed by ordinance contained in the City Code, title "Assessor of Water Rents," pages 108 and 109.

SEC. 3. That the rates of Vehicle License for the year 1882 shall remain the same as fixed by ordinance contained in the City Code, title "Carts, Carriages," etc., pages 117 and 118.

SEC. 4. That the revenue of said City for the year 1882, arising from taxes, water rents, markets, fines and forfeitures, and all other sources, together with any money in the Treasury, not otherwise appropriated, are hereby appropriated for the following purposes:
