An Act to continue, until the Twenty fifth Day of March
One thoufand eight hundred and thirty one, certain Acts
made in the Parliament of Ireland, for the better Regulation
of the Silk Manufacture.

WHEREAS an Act was made in the Parliament of Ireland

in the Seffion held in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Year of His prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Act for the better. • Regulation of the Silk Manufacture; and by an Act made in the Parliament of Ireland, in the Thirty fixth Year of His present Majefty's Reign, the faid recited Act was continued, explained and amended; and by an Act made in the Parliament of Ireland in the Fortieth Year of His prefent Majefty's Reign, the faid recited Act was continued until the Twenty fifth Day of March One thousand eight hundred and ten; and it is expedient that the faid Two firft recited Acts fhould be further continued;' Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the faid Two first recited Acts shall be continued, and fhall be in force from the faid Twenty fifth. Day of March One thoufand eight hundred and ten, until and upon the Twenty fifth Day of March One thousand eight hundred and thirty one, and no longer.

CA P. XXVIII.

An Act for increafing the Rates of Subfiftence to be paid to
Innkeepers and others on quartering Soldiers.

[18th May 1810] HEREAS by an Act paffed in the prefent Seffion of Parliament, for punishing Mutiny and Desertion; and for the better Payment of the Army and their Quarters, certain Rates are eftablished in that Part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, called England, the Dominion of Wales, and the Town of Berwick upon Tweed, for the Payment of Innholders and others on whom Non-commiffioned Officers and Private Soldiers are quartered and billetted, who fhall be furnished with Diet and Small Beer at their Quarters; and an Option is given to fuch Innholders and others, to furnish certain Articles gratis, in lieu of Diet and Small Beer, at the Rates prefcribed: And whereas the Rules prefcribed for furnishing Soldiers with Neceffaries are in many Intances, become, from the high Price of Provisions, inadequate, and are productive of Diftrefs to fuch Innholders and others;' May it therefore pleafe Your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by the King's Molt Excellent Majesty,. by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That every Non-commiffioned Officer and Private Soldier who fhall be furnifhed with Diet and Small Beer within the aforefaid Parts of the United Kingdom, by the Innholders. or other Perfons on whom fuch Non-commiffioned Officers or Private. Soldiers fhall be quartered and billetted by virtue of the faid Act, fhall

pay and allow for the fame One Shilling and Four pence per Diem (a); and that the Accounts of the fame fhall be rendered, and Payment thereof made, in like manner as is directed in the faid Act now in force touching the former Rates of Seven pence per Diem for the Cavalry, and Five pence per Diem for the Infantry. II. And be it further enacted, That in case other Perfons on whom any Non-commiffioned Officers or Private Men fhall be quartered within the aforefaid Parts of the United Kingdom, fhall, by virtue of the faid Option in the faid A&t, furnish such Non-commiffioned Officers or Soldiers with the Articles therein mentioned, in lieu of furnishing Diet and Smail Beer, at the Rates prefcribed by this Act, fuch Innholders or other Perfons on whom fuch Non-commiffioned Officers or Soldiers are quartered, and by whom the faid Articles fhall have been fo fupplied, fhall receive, in confideration thereof, One Halfpenny per Diem for each Non-commiffioned Officer and Soldier, inftead of furnishing the fame gratis, as required by the faid A&t; which Sum of One Halfpenny per Diem fhall be accounted for and paid in like manner as is directed touching the Rates aforefaid.

III. And be it further enacted, That the Sum to be paid to the Innholder or other Perfon within the aforefaid Parts of the United Kingdom, on whom any of the Horfes belonging to His Majefty's Forces fhall be quartered by virtue of the faid Act, for Hay and Straw, fhall be One Shilling and Two pence per Diem for each Horfe, inftead of Six pence per Diem as directed in the faiď A&.

furnished gratis in lieu thereof.

IV. And whereas the Provifions contained in the faid recited Recited Aet in Act, with refpect to the Manner of dieting within the aforefaid part repealed. Parts of the United Kingdom Non-commiffioned Officers and Soldiers on a March, or employed in Recruiting, and likewife the Recruits by them raifed, have been productive of much Inconvenience, as well to the Troops, as the Innholders;' Be it further enacted, That fo much of the faid recited A&t as relates to the manner of furnishing Non-commiffioned Officers and Soldiers on a March, or employed in recruiting, and likewife the Recruits by them raised, with Diet or other Provifion, be and the fame is hereby repealed.

V. And be it further enacted, That all Non-commiffioned Officers Dieting Nonand Soldiers fhall be entitled to receive their Diet and Small Beer Commillioned from the Innholders or other Perfons on whom they may be billetted, Officers on within the aforefaid Parts of the United Kingdom, at the Rates March regubereinbefore prescribed, while on the March, as alfo on and for the lated. Day of their Arrival at the Place of their final Deftination, and on the Two fubfequent Days, unlefs either of the Two fubfequent Days fhall be a Market Day in and for the Town or Place where fuch Officers or Soldiers fhall be billeted, or within the Distance of Two Miles thereof; in which cafe it fhall and may be lawful tor the Inn older, or other Perfon as aforefaid, to difcontinue on and from fuch Market Day the Supply of Diet and Small Beer, and to fur..ith in lieu thereof the Articles in the faid recited Act fpecified; and at the Rate hereinbefore prescribed.

VI. Provided always, That if any Victualler or other Perfon liable Paying Money in Non-commiflieu of furnishing by the faid recited Act to have Soldiers billetted or quartered on him Diet, &e. or her, fhall pay any Sum or Sums of Money to any fioned Officer or Soldier on the March, in lieu of furnishing in Kind, the Diet and Small Beer, to which fuch Non-commiffioned Officer or Soldier is entitled under the faid Act, every such Victualler or other Perfon may be proceeded againft and fined in like manner as if he or fhe had refufed to furnish or allow according to the Directions of the faid recited Act, the feveral Things refpectively directed to be furnished to Non-commiffioned Officers or Soldiers fo quartered or billetted on him or her as aforefaid.

VII. Provided alfo, That if any Regiment, Troop, Company or Detachment, when on the March, fhall be halted, either for a limited or indefinite Time, at any intermediate Place, the Noncommiffioned Officers and Soldiers belonging thereto fhall be entitled to receive their Diet and Small Beer from the Perfons on whom they fhall be billetted at fuch intermediate Place, for fuch time only for which they would be entitled to receive the fame after arriving at the Place of their final Deftination, according to this Act.

VIII. Provided nevertheless, That whenever it fhall happen that any Regiment, Troop, Company or Detachment, when on their March, fhall be halted, and it fhall appear by the Marching Orders, that it is not intended that fuch Regiment, Troop, Company or Detachment, fhall halt for any longer time than One intire Day after the Day of their Arrival at the Place of halting, and the Day after fuch Arrival fhall be fuch Market Day as aforetaid, it fhall not be lawful for the Innholders or other Perfons on whom the Noncommiffioned Officers and Soldiers fhall be billetted, to discontinue on fuch Market Day the Supply of Diet and Small Beer to any fuch Officers or Soldiers; but that all fuch Officers and Soldiers, fhall be entitled to receive their Diet and Small Beer from fuch Innholders and other Perfons aforefaid, upon fuch Market Day as aforefaid, at the Rates hereinbefore prescribed, in like manner as they would have been entitled thereto, if fuch Day had not been a Market Day; any thing hereinbefore contained to the contrary hereof notwithtanding.

IX. And be it further enacted, That all Non-commiffioned Officers and Private Men employed in recruiting, and the Recruits by them raised, shall, while on the March, and for Two Days after the Day of their Arrival at any Recruiting Station, be entitled to the fame Benefits as are herein before provided in regard to Troops upon the March; but no Recruit enlifted after the Two Days fubfequent to the Arrival of the Party at their Recruiting Station, shall be entitled to be fupplied with Diet and Small Beer at the Rate herein before prescribed, except at the Option of the Perfon on whom he shall be quartered Provided alfo nevertheless, that in cafe any fuch Recruiting Party, with the Recruits by them raised, fhall remove from their Station, and after a time fhall return to the fame Place, they and the Recruits by them raised, so returning, fhall not be again entitled to the Supply of Diet and Small Beer for fuch Two Days as aforefaid, unless the Period between the time of their Removal from fuch Place, and their Return thereto, shall have exceeded Twenty eight Days.

X. And be it further enacted, That this A&t shall have Continuance Continuance. from the Twenty fourth Day of March One thousand eight hundred

and ten until the Twenty fifth Day of March One thousand eight

hundred and eleven.

XI. Provided always, and be it further enacted, That this A& A&t altered, &c. may be altered and varied by any Act to be made in this Seffion of Parliament.

CA P. XXIX.

An Act to amend an Act of the laft Seffion of Parliament, for
amending the Irish Road Acts.
[18th May 1810.]

WHEREAS by an Act made in the laft Seffion of Parliament,

intituled, An Ad for amending the Irish Road Acts, it was, 49 G. 3. c. 84, among other Things, enacted, That from and after the End of the $18. 'feveral Lent Affizes which fhall be held in Ireland in the Year One thoufand eight hundred and ten, no Affidavit for the accounting for the Repairs of any Road fhall be allowed by the Grand Jury or by the Court at any Affizes or Prefenting Term in or for any County or County of a City or Town in Irland, unless it fhall be 'ípecially ftated in fuch Affidavit that there is not on either Side of any Part of the Road fpecified in fich Affidavit, any Grip, Trench or Drain, without a Wall or other fufficient Defence 'between fuch Grip, Trench or Drain, and the Side of fuch Road: And whereas in many Parts of Ireland the Building of fuch • Walls or other fufficient Fences may be attended with great Expence: Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That it fhall and may be lawful for the Grand Jury, and the Court at any Affizes or October Seffion to be held in Ireland, to allow any Affidavit for the accounting for the Repairs of any Road (not being a Road on which His Majefty's Mails are conveyed in Mail Coaches or Four-wheeled Carriages drawn by Two or more Horfes) without its being stated, as is required by the faid recited Act, that "there is not any Grip, "Trench or Drain without a Wall or other fufficient Fence between "the fame and the Side of the Road," provided that it appears that no former Grand Jury prefented a Sum for making fuch Wall or Fence any thing in the faid recited A&t to the contrary notwithftanding.

II. And be it further enacted, That in all Cafes where Line of Road fhall have been furveyed, approved of, and prefented by any Grand Jury and Court at any Affizes, whereby any Mail pairs. Coach Road now in Ufe, or any Part of fuch Road fhall be propofed to be avoided; it fhall be lawful for the Grand Jury and the Court to allow any Affidavit for accounting for the temporary Repair of the Part of fuch Mail Coach Road as is fo to be avoided, although it fhall not be specially stated in any fuch Affidavit that there is not on either Side of any Part of the Road specified in fuch Affidavit, any Grip, Trench or Drain, without a Wall or other "fufficient Defence "between fuch Grip, Trench or Drain, and the Side of fuch Road;" any thing in the faid recited A&t of the laft Seffion of Parliament to the contrary notwithstanding.

III. And be it further enacted, That in every Affidavit for accounting for any Prefentment for the building, rebuilding, enlarging or repairing any Bridge, Arch, Gullet, Gaol, Seffion-house, Workhoufe, Houfe of Correction, Pipe or Wall, or for the making, repairing or preferving any Road or Footpaths, or for the making Drains in order to carry off any Water which might injure any Bridge, Gullet, Arch, Pipe, Wall or Road, the Overfeer making the fame fhall enter in the Account annexed thereto as an Item or Items compofing Part of the Sum to be accounted for, the Amount of any Sum or Sums which may have been awarded for Damages incurred by his having taken away from the Grounds or Lands belonging to any Perfon any Stones, Gravel, Sand or Earth, for the Purpose of executing the Prefentments which such Affidavit is to account for the Expenditure of, pursuant to an A& paffed in Ireland in the Thirty fixth Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefly, for the Amendment of Public Roads, whether the probable Expence may or may not have been estimated previous to obtaining the Presentment.

IV. And be it further enacted, That this Act may be altered, varied or repealed by any Act to be paffed in this Seffion of Parliament.

CA P. XXX.

An Act to regulate the Fees payable to Coroners in Ireland,
upon holding Inquifitions.
[18th May 1810.]

WHEREAS Coroners in Ireland are at confiderable Expence

in holding Inquifitions, and are not fufficiently paid for the fame;' Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That it fhall and may be lawful for the Grand Jury of each County in Ireland, County of a City, and County of a Town, at each Affizes or Prefenting Term, to prefent any Sum not exceeding Five Guineas for each and every Inqueft which any Coroner of that County hall have held fince the preceding Affizes or Prefenting Term; to be paid to the Treafurer of fuch County, and by him to the Coroner who shall have held the fame, Proof being first made to the Satisfaction of the Grand Jury of his having made due Return of fuch Inqueft to faid Afsizes or Prefenting Term: Provided always, that the Money to be prefented as aforefaid, at any one Affizes or Prefenting Term shall not exceed in the Whole the Sum of Forty Guineas.

II. Provided alfo, and be it further enacted, That nothing herein contained fhall extend to Inquifitions held in Gaols in the County or County of the City of Dublin.
