HEREAS in and by an Act made and paffed in the thirty-ninth year of His Majefty's reign, intituled: "An Act for erecting Court Houfes with proper Claufe in At 39 Offices in the feveral Diftricts of Quebec and Montreal, and for defraying the expences thereof," It is amongst other things enacted, that the Provincial Court of Appeals and divers other Courts in the faid Act particularly mentioned, fhall be holden and kept in the Court Houses, in the faid Diftricts refpectively, any Law, cufton or ufage to the contrary notwithstanding. And whereas it may be neceffary that the Provincial Court of Appeals fhould occafionally be holden and kept elf where. Be it therefore enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legiflative Council and Alfembly of the Province of Lower Canada, conftituted and aflembled by virtue of, and under the authority of an Act of the Par liament of Great Britain, intituled: "An Act to repeal certain parts of an At, paffed in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's reign, intitu ed: An Act for making more effectual provifion for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North "America"" And to mak further provision for the Government of the lait Pro"vince," And it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, that from and after the paffing of this At, the Provincial Court of Appeals fhall b holden and kept in fuch place and places, within the Cry of Quebec, as the Governor, Lieutenant Court of Appeals. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforésaid, that when and fo often, as the Governor, Lieutenant Governor or perfon adminiftering the Government of this Province, for the time being, fhall, by fuch Warrant as aforefaid, appoint any place as aforefaid, for the purpose aforefaid, it shall be the duty of the Clerk of the Provincial Court of Appeals, and he is hereby required, forthwith to give public notice in the Quebec Gazette, of the place wherein the Province Court of Appeals, under and by virtue of such Warrant, will be kept and holden.

III. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, that this A&t shall continue and be in force until the first day of January, One Thoufand Eight Hundred and Ten, and from thence to the end of the next Seffion of the Provincial Parliament, and no longer,

AN ACT for better regulating the weight and rates at which certain Coins fhall pass current in this Province; for preventing the falfifying, counterfeiting or impairing of the fame; and for repealing the Act and Or dinance therein mentioned.

WHE

HEREAS by the A&t, now in force, the relative value of Gold Coins cur rent, in this Province, is not accurately established. Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the Legislative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of, and under the authority of an Act paffed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts of an A "paffed in the fourteenth Year of His Majefty's Reign, intit led, "An Act for "making more effectual Provifion for the Government of the Province of Quebec in "North America," "And to make further provifion for the Government of the faid "Province," And it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, that the Gold coins established. and Silver Coins, herein after mentioned, fhall pals current and be deemed a legal tender in payment of all debts and demands whatsoever in this Province, at the weights and rates following, that is to fay, of Gold Coins, when weighed by the Gingle piece, the British Guinea weighing five Pennyweights and fix Grains, Troy, at one Pound, three Shillings and four Pence; the Johannes of Portugal, weighing eighteen Pennyweight, Troy, at four Pounds; the Moidore of Portugal, weighing fix Pennyweight and eighteen Grains, Troy, at one Pound, ten Shillings; the Milled Doubloon or four Piftole Piece of Spain, weighing feventeen Pennyweight, Troy, at three Pounds, fourteen Shillings and fix Pence; the French Louis d'Or,

Et qu'il foit de plus ftatué par l'autorité fufdite, que toutes fois et quantes que le Gouverneur, Lieutenant Gouverneur ou la Perfonne ayant l'adminiftration du Gouvernement de cette Province, pour le tems d'alors, fixera quelque place comme fufdit, pour les fins fufdites, par tel ordre comme fufdit, il fera du devoir du Greffier de la Cour Provinciale d'Appel, et il eft par le préfent requis de donner incontinent Notice Publique, dans la Gazette de Québec, du lieu où la Cour Piovinciale d'Appel devra fe tenir, fous et en vertu de tel ordre. *

III. Et qu'il foit de plus ftatué par l'autorité fufdite, que cet A&te continuera d'être en force jufqu'au premier jour de Janvier mil huit cent dix, et de là jufqu'à la fin de la Seffion alors prochaine du Parlement Provincial, et pas plus longtems.

coined before the year, one thousand seven hundred and ninety three, weighing five Penny weight and four Grains, Troy, at one Pound two Shillings and eight Pence ; the French Piftole piece, coined before the fame period, weighing four Penny weight and four Grains, Troy, at eighteen Shillings and three Pence; the Ame rican Eagle piece, weighing eleven Penny weight and fix Grains, Troy, at two Pounds and ten Shillings and of Silver Coins, the British Crown, at five Shillings and fix Pence; the British Shilling at one Shilling and one Penny; the Spanish Milled Dollar at five Shillings, equal to four Shillings and fix Pence, Sterling mo. ney of Great Britain; the Spanish Piftereen, at one Shilling; the French Crown, coined, before the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety three, at five Shillings and fix pence; the French piece of four Livres and ten Sols, Tournois, at four Shillings and two Pence, the French piece of thirty fix Sols, tournois, at one Shilling and eight Pence; the French piece of twenty four Sols, tournois, at one Shilling and one Penny; the American Dollar at five Shillings; and all the higher and lower denominations of the faid Gold and Silver coins, fhall, alfo pass current, and be deemed a legal tender in payment of all debts and demands whatsoever in this Province, in the fame proportions, refpectively.

II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that for every grain which any piece of the aforefaid British, Portugal, or American Gold coins hall the refpectively weigh more than the Standard aforefaid, when weighed by the fingle piece, there fhall be allowed and added, in all payments, two pence and one farthing, currency, and for every grain which any piece of the fame, fhall, refpectively, weigh less than the Standard aforefaid, there fhall be allowed and deducted in all payments, two pence and one farthing, currency, and for every grain which any piece of the aforefaid Spanish or French Gold coins fhall respectively weigh, more than the Standard aforefaid, when weighed by the fingle piece, there fhall be allow. ed and added in all payments, two pence and one fifth of a penny, currency; and for every grain which any piece of the fame fhall refpectively weigh less than the Standard aforefaid, there fhall be allowed and deducted, in all payments, two pence and one fifth of a penny, currency.

III. And be it further enacted by the authority aforefaid, that if any person whatfalfe or conterfeit foever, fhall, after the paffing of this A&t, utter or tender in payment to any person or perfons, any falfe or counterfeit money, counterfeit to any of the Gold or Silver coin of Great Britain, Portugal, the United States of America, Spain or France, as herein before fpecified, or to any of the higher or lower denominations thereof, knowing the fame to be falfe or counterfeit, and fhall be thereof convicted, fuch perfon fo offending, fhall fuffer one year's imprisonment, and shall alfo be fet in and upon the Pillory, for the space of one hour in fome Market place; and if the fame perfon fhall afterwards offend a fecond time, in uttering or tendering in payment any fuch falfe or counterfeit money, as aforesaid, knowing the fame to be lo, and
