AN ACT in relation to the valuation of the property of railroad companies in school districts, for the purpose of taxation.

§ 2. Such apportionment shall be in writing, and shall be signed by said assessors, or a majority of with town them, and shall set forth the number of each district and the amount of the valuation of the property of each railroad company, apportioned to each of said districts; and such apportionment shall be filed with the town clerk, by said assessors or one of them, within five days after being made; and the amount so apportioned to each district shall be the valuation of the property of each of said companies, on which all taxes against said companies in and for said districts, shall be levied and assessed until the next annual assessment and apportionment.

§ 3. 5. In case any alteration shall be made in any school district, affecting the property of any railroad company, the officer making such alteration shall, at the same time, determine what change in the valuation of the said property in such district would be just, on account of the alteration of district, and the valuation shall be accordingly changed.

§ 6. This act shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend chapter five hundred and eightyfive of the Laws of eighteen hundred and sixtyfive, entitled "An act to establish Cornell University, and to appropriate to it the income of the sale of public lands granted to this state by congress, on the second day of July, eighteen hundred and sixty-two, also to restrict the operation of chapter five hundred and eleven of the Laws of eighteen hundred and sixty-three."

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section nine of chapter five hundred and eighty-five of the Laws of eighteen hundred and sixty-five is hereby amended so as to read as follows: 89. But, with a view to equalize its advantages to all parts of the state, the institution shall annually receive students, one from each assembly district in the state, to be selected as hereinafter provided, and shall give them instruction in any or in all the prescribed branches of study in any department of said institution, free of any tuition fee or of any incidental charges to be paid to said university, unless such incidental charges shall have been made to compensate for damages needlessly or purposely done by the students to the property of said university. AN ACT to amend an act entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to designate the holidays to be observed in the acceptance and payment of bills of exchange and promissory notes, passed April twenty-third, eighteen hundred and seventy.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section one of an act entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to designate the holidays to be observed in the acceptance and payment of bills of exchange and promissory notes, passed April twenty-third, eighteen hundred and seventy, is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

Holidays. § 1. The following days, namely: The first day of January, commonly called new year's day, the twenty-second day of February, the fourth day of July, the twenty-fifth day of December, any general election day, any day appointed or recommended by the governor of this state, or the president of the United States, as a day of thanksgiving, or as a day of fasting or prayer, or other religious observance, the thirtieth day of May, to be known as decoration day, shall, for all purposes whatsoever, as regards the presenting for payment or acceptance, and of the protesting and giving notice of the dishonor of bills of exchange, bank checks and promissory notes, made after the passage of this act, be treated and considered as the first day of the week, commonly called Sunday, and as public holidays.
