These things are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that, believing, ye might have life through his name. -John xx. 31.

Jesus Christ, &c. whom ye crucified, whom God raised, &c. This is the stone which was set at nought, &c. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved, &c. Against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, &c. Acts iv. 10 12. 27.

Jesus, whom ye slew, &c. him hath God exalted, &c. to be a Prince, and a Saviour; to give repentance unto Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Acts v. 30, 31.

Through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins.Acts xiii. 38. .

We believe, that through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, &c.—Acts xv. 11.

Paul, &c. reasoned with them out of the scriptures, &c. that this Jesus whom I preach unto you, is Christ. Acts xvii. 2, 3.

Jesus Christ, whom God hath set forth (or fore-ordained) to be a pro pitiation, through faith in his blood. -Rom. iii. 24, 25.

When we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the un godly, &c. While we were yet sin ners, Christ died for us, &c. God, &c. hath quickened us together with Christ, &c. raised us, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus; who made us nigh, &c. Jesus himself being the chief corner stone, in whom all the building, &c.

Eph. ii. 5, 6. 13, 14. 20, 21.

Christ is the head of the church, and the Saviour of the body.-Eph. v. 23.

We look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.Phil. iii. 20,

It pleased the Father that in him

should all fulness dwell, &c. By him to reconcile all things unto himself, &c. Christ in (or among) you, the hope of glory.-Col. i. 19, 20. 27. Your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall, &c. Col. iii. 3, 4.

His Son Jesus, who delivered us from the wrath to come.-1 Thess. i. 10.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.-1 Tim. i. 15.

One Mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.-1 Tim. ii. 5, 6.

Is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light. -2 Tim. i. 10.

Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, &c.—Titus ii. 13, 14. Eph. v. 2.

Christ now once in the end of the world hath he appeared, to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself, &c. Unto them who look for him, shall he appear the second time, without sin, unto salvation.-Heb. ix. 24. 26. 28.

We are sanctified through the offer ing of the body of Christ once for all, &c. By one offering he hath perfected for ever them who are sanctified, &c.-Heb. x. 10. 14.

Looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.-Heb, xii. 2..

Who hath begotten us again unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, &c. The prophets, &c. who prophesied of the grace, &e. searching what, &c. the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory which should follow, &c. Ye were not redeemed with silver and gold, &c. but with the precious blood of Christ, &e. who verily was foreordained, before the foundation of the world, &c.-. 1 Pet. i. 3. 10, 11. 18-20.

We did not by art, &c. make known the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, &c. but as those who had seen his majesty with our eyes, &c. He received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: and this voice, which came from heaven, we heard when we were with him, &c.-2 Pet. i. 16-18.

Jesus Christ, &c. he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world, &c. Who is a liar, but he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ-1 John ii. 1, 2. 22.

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins, and in him is no sin, &c. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil.-1 John iii. 5. 8.

God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him, &c. We, &c. testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world:-1 John iv. 9, 14.

us to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation: and hast made us unto our God, &c.-Rev. v. 8-10.

The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, &c.-Rev. xiii. 8. I, Jesus, have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things, &c. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. -Rev. xxii. 16.

THIRDLY, The Excellency of this Saviour, and his Fulness and Dignity.

In his Person and Authority. YET have I set my king (or anointed) upon my holy hill of Sion, &c. The Lord hath said, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee, &c. I shall give thee the heathen for thy inheritance, &c. thou shalt break them with a rod of iron, &c.-Ps. ii. 6-9. xviii. 43, 44.

Thou art fairer than the children of men, grace is poured into thy lips, &c. Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory, and thy majesty; and in thy majesty ride, &c. Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the King's enemies, whereby the people shall fall under thee. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre, &c. God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness, above thy fellows, &c. The King, &c. he is thy Lord, and worship thou him.-Ps. xlv. 1-6. 11. Isa. xlix. 2. Numb. xxiv. 17-19.

Thou hast ascended on high; thou hast led captivity captive; thou hast received gifts.-Ps. Ixviii. 18. Eph. iv. 8.

He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth; they, &c. shall bow down before him: and his enemies shall lick the dust, &c. All kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him, &c. His name shall endure for ever: his name

shall be continued as long as the sun (or shall be as a Son, to continue his Father's name for ever), &c. And all nations shall call him blessed.-Ps. lxxii. 8,9.11, 17, 18. xci. throughout.

I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers, &c. Also I will make him my first-born higher than the kings of the earth, &c. His throne as the days of heaven, as the sun before me.-Ps. lxxxix. 25. 27.29.36.

The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool, &c. Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.Ps. cx. 1, 2. 5, 6. Isa. xi. 4.

The stone which the builders refused is become the head of the corner.-Ps. cxviii. 22. Acts iv. 11, 12. Matt. xxi. 42.

Wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things which may be desired, are not to be compared unto it, &c. Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding, I have strength: by me kings reign, and princes decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth, &c. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, &c. I cause those who love me, to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures, &c. the Lord possessed me in the beginning, &c. when he appointed the foundations of the earth, then I was by him, &c. His delight; whoso findeth me, findeth life, &c.-Prov. viii. 11. 14-16. 18-23. 29, 30. 35.

Thy name is as ointment poured out, &c.-Cant, i. 3.

The beauty of his person described by the parts thereof, and said in the close to be altogether lovely.-Cant, iv. 10-16. Rev. i. 13-15.

A virgin shall, &c. bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel, God with us, &c.-Isa. vii. 14. Matt. i. 23.

Unto us a child is born, &c. his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace; of the increase of his govern

And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder: so he shall open and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. -Isa. xxii. 22. Rev. iii. 7.

I lay in Zion, &c. a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner-stone, a sure foundation.-Isa. xxviii. 16.

Him whom man despiseth, &c. kings shall see and arise: princes also shall worship, &c.—Isa. xlix. 7. lx. 3. 10. 12.

Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high, &c. the kings shall shut their mouths at him.-Isa. lii. 13. 15.

Behold, I have given him, &c. a leader and commander to the people. -Isa. lv. 4.

I will overturn, overturn, &c. until he come whose right it is: and I will give it him.-Ezek. xxi. 27.

I will raise up for them a plant of renown, &c.-Ezek. xxxiv. 29.

And my servant David shall be their prince for ever.-Ezek. xxxvii. 25.

From the going forth of the commandment, &c. unto the Messiah the Prince, &c.-Dan. ix. 25.

They shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek, &c. Beth-lehem Ephratah, &c. Out of thee shall he come forth unto me, that is to be ruler in Israel: whose goings forth have been from of old (or the days of eternity).-Micah v. 1, 2. The desire of all nations shall come. -Hag. ii. 7.

He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne, &c. -Zech. vi. 13.

Rejoice greatly, &c. behold, thy King cometh unto thee,&c.-Zech. ix. 9.

Awake, O sword, &c. against the man that is my fellow.-Zech. xiii. 7. Ps. lxxx. 17.

And the Lord shall be King over all the earth.-Zech. xiv. 9.

Who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner's fire, &c.-Mal. iii. 1-3.

Mary, &c. was found with child of the Holy Ghost, &c. That which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost, &c. and they shall call his name Immanuel, which is, God with with us, &c.-Matt. i. 18. 20. 23. Luke i. 35.

He taught as one having authority, and not as the scribes.-Matt. vii. 29. Luke iv. 32.

The devils cried out, saying, &c. Jesus, thou Son of God, &c.-Matt. viii. 29.

Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, &c. That ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins.-Matt. ix. 4. 6.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no man knoweth the Son but the Father. Neither knoweth any man the Father save the Son, and he to whom, &c.-Matt. xi. 27. John x. 15.

Behold, a greater than Jonas is here, &c. a greater than Solomon is here.-Matt. xii. 41, 42. Mark i. 7. The woman of Canaan came and worshipped him, and said, Lord help me.-Matt. xv. 22. 25. xiv. 33. xxviii. 9. 17. Luke xxiv. 52.

Why callest thou me good? there is none good, but one, that is God. Matt. xix. 17.

Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children, with her sons, and worshipped him.-Matt. xx. 20.

When Christ was riding, &c. the multitude cried, Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.-Matt. xxi. 9.

Jesus said, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth, &c.— Matt. xxviii. 18.

The unclean spirit said, I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God, &c. with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they obey him, &c. He cast out many devils, and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him (or, to say that they knew him).-Mark i. 23, 24. 27. 34. v. 7.

Christ said to the man sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee, &c. Who can forgive sins but God only? &c. The Son of man hath power, &c. to forgive sins.-Mark ii. 5-7.9, 10. Luke v. 20-24.

needed not that any man should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.-John ii. 24, 25. Luke ix. 47.

No man hath ascended up to heaven, but he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in hea ven, &c. He who cometh from above, is above all, &c.. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.-John iii. 13. 31. 34, 35.

What things soever the Father doth, those also doth the Son likewise, &c. For as the Father raiseth up the dead and quickeneth them, even so the Son quickeneth whom he will, &c. He hath committed all judgment to the Son; that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father, &c. As the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself: and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because, &c.-John v. 19. 21

Jesus: he shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David, and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end, &c. The holy thing which shall be born of thee, shall be called the Son of God. 23. 26, 27. Luke i. 31-33.35.

At twelve years old, He sat in the midst of the doctors in the temple, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.-Luke ii. 42. 46, 47. John vii. 46.

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptores.-Luke xxiv. 45.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, &c. All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made which was made, &c. He is the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, &c. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us; and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth, &c. Is preferred before me, for he was before me.--John i. 3. 9, 10. 14, 15. 27. 30. iii. 16. 1 John i. 1, 2. -1 Cor. x. 4. 9. Heb. iii. 3, 4. Jesus, &c. knew all men, and

Him hath God, the Father sealed, &c. I came down from heaven, &c. If ye see the Son of man ascend up where he was before, &c. Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him, &c. We believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.-John vi. 27. 38. 62. 64. 69.

Jesus said, I am the light of the world, &c. Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, before Abraham was, I am.-John viii. 12. 58. ix. 5. 1 Cor. x. 4. 9.

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God, &c. Ye call me Master, and Lord, and ye say well, for so I am John xiii. 3. 13.

Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father; and Jesus said, &c. He who hath seen me hath seen the Father, &c. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me, &c. The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.-John xiv. 8, 9. 11.30.
