At first I was skeptical. You have to wait to the middle of the book for his psychotic side to really show through. But once it does...magic! I really enjoyed this book, and it left you with questions and an unhappy ending, which is just the best kind of ending.

Great read.

Amazing book. Beautifully controlled masterpiece. Not boring at all. Don't read this if you want a conventional serial killer story. This is more of a satirical statement and a very well-written window into the mind of an insane wall-street yuppie.

Slow, with zero narrative. It's not a story, just a 400 page long internal monologue of a serial killer.
If you're interested, watch the film; it and the book are of equally poor quality, so film will waste less of your time.

American psycho
Great

Not for me
I loved the American Psycho movie so I decided to read the book. I got about 10 to 14 chapters in and just couldn't read anymore. I thought it was very boring but that is just my opinion.

Not for everyone, a personal favorite of mine
Certain types of people will fall madly in love with this book. More will find it grotesque. If you're the type who does not shy away from a bit of the
old ultra-violence, the type whose interest piqued at the description of the book as well as the controversy surrounding it, you owe it to yourself to read this book. For my money, this is the most off the wall entertaining book I've yet come across. Highly recommended.

I was happy to finish this one. I found it difficult to cut through, to be honest. I guess it just is not my type of literature.

This book was the shit.

The book is -okay-. Some parts I found quite good and sometimes funny (e.g. the U2 concert), while others... well, were either dull or simply trashy. I would be willing to give the book a higher rating if the violence was more "perceived" instead of just being raw narration. As it is, it was kinda pointless, we don't get much of Patrick's "logic" and so it feels like reading dumb pulp (which this may very well be). The parts were he explains himself and struggles with himself are some of the more interesting portions of the book. It's an interesting read, but be sure buckle-up for stop-n-go style narration.
