No. 410. House bill to amend the Code of Virginia, section 1438, fixing the salary of the division superintendent of schools.

No. 411. House bill to ratify and confirm certain acts of Henry C. Stuart, former Governor of Virginia, in relation to the securing options in the name of the State of Virginia on certain lands to be used for military purposes, situated in Prince George county, Virginia, and to authorize the proper officers of the State of Virginia to assign options to the United States Camp, Inc.

No. 412. House bill to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of Culpeper county to retire certain bonds issued for the improvement of roads in Stevensburg district in the said county.

No. 413. House bill to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act authorizing the board of supervisors of Chesterfield county to create a general road fund and to provide for the permanent improvement of roads, approved April 2, 1902, and to create an advisory road board and to provide for the appointment of a county superintendent of roads, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved May 14, 1903, and to authorize the said board of supervsiors to create a general maintenance road fund.

No. 377. House bill to amend and re-enact section 3528 of the Code of Virginia as heretofore amended, having been printed, was read at length a second time.

On motions severally made, the bill was severally amended.

The bill was read at length a second time and ordered to be engrossed.

No. 253. House bill to regulate the treatment, handling and work of prisoners sentenced to the State penitentiary, having been printed, was read at length a second time.

The amendments proposed by the Committee on Appropriations were agreed to.

MR. WILLIS moved to amend by adding to the title the following, "and to appropriate funds therefor;" which motion was agreed to.

The bill was ordered to be engrossed.

No. 326. House bill to amend and re-enact sections 3c, 5, 11 and 13 of an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to license and regulate the running of automobiles, locomobiles and other vehicles and conveyances whose motive power is other than animal power along and over the public highways of this State; to provide for the registration of the same; to provide uniform rules regulating the use and speed thereof and to prescribe penalties for the violation of said rules and regulations and for the licensing of chauffeurs, and to repeal an act entitled an act to regulate the running of automobiles, locomobiles and other vehicles and conveyances whose motive power is other than animals along and over the public highways of this State; to provide for the registration of the same; to provide uniform rules. and regulating the use and speed thereof and to prescribe for the violation of said rules, approved March 17, 1910; and further, to provide for licensing dealers and garages and for running motor vehicles for hire and to prescribe penalties for violations of this act, and to further provide for the payment of fees collected under this act into the State Treasury and the expenditure of same in the maintenance and construction of State aid roads and bridges, approved March 24, 1916, having been printed, was read at length a second time.

On motion of MR. FITZHUGH, the bill was severally amended.

The bill was ordered to be engrossed.

A message was received from the Senate by MR. RISON, who informed the House that the Senate insists on its amendments to

House bill to amend and re-enact section 89 of an act entitled an act to provide for the settlement, registration, transfer and assurance of titles to land and to establish courts of land registration with jurisdiction for said purposes and to make uniform the laws of the States enacting same, approved February 24, 1916; and requests a committee of conference.

MR. NORRIS moved that the request of the Senate for a committee of conference be concurred in; which was agreed to. Ordered that MR. NORRIS inform the Senate thereof.
