substances, like enzymes, are proteins. The only repressor substance so far
isolated, the lactose repressor of the bacterium Escherichia coli, is a protein of
about 150,000 to 200,000 molecular weight.233 A cell probably contains only

One such organized unit, which catalyzes a coordinated sequence of seven
distinguishable chemical reactions, has been isolated from yeast and found to
have a molecular weight of 2.3 million, indicating that a number of different
Citrate is an effector which accelerates the activity of the enzyme catalyzing the
first reaction in the conversion of acetylcoenzyme A to fat. Thus it facilitates the
production of fat. This effect is enhanced by the negative effector action of ATP ...

I purchased this book many years ago and found it very enlighting. The shredout concept was of particular interest to me in that it provided ways to look at various living systems from micro to macro. It has a lot of detail which I never was able to get around to studying, but appears to have influenced my thinking which was later documented in a series of blogs http://www.bcswonline.com/blog/index.html
I still have a copy and refer to it.
