March 5th, at Bath, Colonel Love Parry Jones, of Llwyn Onn, Denbighshire, North Wales, aged 80. He entered the Army in 1778, and served during thirty years. He was in the

rebellion in Ireland; and, in 1799, embarked in the expedition to the Helder, and was present in all the actious of that campaign. He also commanded a detachment sent to reduce the Fort of Aboukir, and on the memorable defeat of the French at Alexandria, in 1802, commanded his regiment, the 2nd, or Queen's Royal, and then received from Sultan Selim a gold medal, the Order of the Crescent, which was given to the officers present on occasion of assisting the Turks to drive the French armies from Egypt.

March 6th, at Malta, Dr. Martin, Deputy Inspector of Hospitals.

Extract of a letter received from Malta, dated 7th March, 1843.-"I write hurriedly, in the Admiral's Office, to acquaint you of the melancholy death of poor Dr. Martin, under circum. stances of great atrocity. Yesterday, at noon, he paid a professional visit to the AdmiralSuperintendent at the Dockyard, and when in the act of stepping into his boat, the sentry one of the 88th Regt., deliberately shot him. The bullet entered a little above the right kidney, which it lacerated to atoms, passed transversely through the abdomen, dividing in its course two folds of the intestine, and made its exit on the left of the umbilicus. The poor victim only survived the wound about threequarters of an hour, and appeared to suffer much."
