A Petition of John Myer, Thomas Howard and John Gillelan to be appointed to the Office of Clerk of Clinton Market-Of James Minor and John M Devoy to be appointed Clerk of the Grand Street Market-And also a Recommendation in favor of appointing George A Smith Clerk of Franklin Market were severally read and referred to the Market Committee.

Street Inspector of the 6th Ward-And also of [247] Horatio Mott for re-appointment to the Office of Street Inspector of the 9th Ward, were severally read and referred to the Committee on Applications for Office.

A Remonstrance of a number of Butchers in the Centre Market against the Petition of Samuel Cowdrey & others to have the Butchers remain at the junction of Bowery and 2a Streets was read and referred to the Market Committee.

A Petition of Frazee Connet and also of Isaac C Osborn for the Office of Keeper of Washington Parade, were read and referred to the Committee on Applications for Office.

A Petition of G. P Rogers and others praying that Southampton Road from the 8th Avenue to 15th Street may be closed was read and referred to the Street Committee.

A Petition of Alexander Underhill for Stall No 3 Greenwich Market was read and referred to the Market Committee.

A Petition of James Reeves and James Reeves Jun' to purchase a Gore of Land on Troy street formerly belonging to them was read and referred to the Finance Committee.

A Petition of Eleazer Hall for the Office of Sealer of Weights and Measures was read and referred to the Committee on Applications for Office

A Petition of John W Innes and others praying that the Butchers may be removed from the Bowery, was read and referred to the Market Committee.

A Petition of Peter Ogilvie Jun' to be appointed Collector of Assessments was read and referred to the Committee on Applications for Office.

[249] A Memorial of Henry F Blackwell for the extension of his Lease of Hurl Gate Ferry was read and referred to the Ferry Committee

A Memorial of A Treman & Thomas Kinnersly for indemnification for injuries caused by the inundation of their Lands near 19th Street and 5th Avenue-Also a Remonstrance of the owners of Lands between 13th & 21st Streets relative to filling up and regulating said Grounds were read and laid on the Table

A Petition of Amos Lay praying that the Board will purchase from him a New Map of the United States published in 1827 and revised for 1829 was read and referred to the Committee on Arts and Sciences.

A Petition of Benjamin Rouse to Lease a small Gore of Land in Nassau Street near Maiden Lane was read and referred to the Finance Committee.

A Petition of Richard P Lawrence to be appointed Inspector of Hacks was read and referred to the Committee on Applications for Office.

A Communication from the Society for [250] the Reformation of Juvenile Delinquents inviting the Corporation to visit the Establishment on Teusday the 20th Instant, Was read and Accepted.

His Honor the Mayor stated that agreeably to the direction of the Board he had transmitted to the Governor of New Jersey the Report of the Special Committee on the subject of his request for the Common Council to aid in procuring an account of the Amount of Tonnage between Philadelphia & New York &c &c

The following Letter from the Honb1 William Paulding late Mayor was received, read and directed to be entered on the Minutes and filed.

I have had the honour to receive your note of yesterday, and the accompanying Resolutions of the Common Council of the 5th instant; in which, while the Members of the Board express their approbation of our official conduct, as Mayor of the City of New York, they tender to me assurances of their high personal respect, and esteem.

For these flattering testimonials of the favourable opinion of the Corporation, and for [251] the many other, distinguished, proofs I have received of their kindness and confidence, allow me the gratification, Sir, of offering to them my profound & grateful acknowledg

ments.

The Finance Committee to whom had been referred the Petition of John Gallagher for an extra Compensation for digging a Well in the Bowery near Hester street presented the following Report against the same

The Finance Committee respectfully Report on the within Petition of John Gallagher, who prays for an extra compensation for digging a Well in the Bowery near Hester street

Your Committee can see no good or sufficient reason for allowing any compensation beyond the Contract price to the Petitioner, and they therefore offer the following Resolution.

The Finance Committee to whom had been referred the Petition of John Williams for the balance due him for regulating a part of Tenth street according to his contract presented the following Report in favor of the same.

The Finance Committee respectfully Report on the within Petition of John Williams for a balance of Money due him for regulating a part of Tenth Street, according to his contract, This request your Committee deem to be reasonable, and such being also the opinion of the Street Commissioner; The following Resolution is respectfully submitted.

Resolved that the Street Commissioner apply for a Warrant for the amount that he may find to be due to John Williams on the contract for regulating a part of Tenth street

The Special Committee consisting of the Street Committee and the Alderman and Assistant of the 12th Ward to whom was referred the Report of the Street Committee on subject of relief to the owners of property between 13th & 21st Streets, the 6th Avenue and the Bloomingdale Road presented a Report which was read and after some consideration was laid on the Table.
