The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and approved

A Petition of Silas Barber to lease from the Common, Council property in West street between Christopher and Barrow streets was read and referred to the Finance Committee

[186] A Petition of Cornelius P Brower a Watchman praying compensation for his time and attendance as a Witness in the case of Charles Mathews on an Indictment for stabbing one McNally was read and referred to the Watch Committee

A Communication was received from W J Coffee stating that he is about making a Plaster Statue of the late Governor Clinton and praying the patronage of the Common Council in the undertaking was read and referred to the Committee on Arts and Sciences

A Memorial of J Johnson against the Assessment for extending the Washington Military Parade Ground was read-Whereupon Resolved that the Petitioner have leave to withdraw his Petition

A Memorial of John L Ireland & others to be relieved from an Assessment for extending the Washington Military Parade Ground was read-Whereupon Resolved that the Petitioners have leave to withdraw their Petition.

A Petition of Asa Holden & others to have 24th & 25th Streets opened from 8th Avenue to Hudson River was read and referred to the Street Committee

A Petition of Asa Hall & others to have Hudson street paved from Bank street to 13th Street was read and referred to the Street Committee

A Remonstrance of Charles Trinder and others against extending Minetto street to McDougal street was read and referred to the Street Committee

A Remonstrance of the Merchants in the neighborhood of New Slip against permitting Steam Boats to come into and lie in said Slip was read and referred to the Finance Committee

A Petition of Christopher Heiser [190] stating that he purchased of the Corporation a Gore of land at the Corner of Hudson & Reed streets and praying the Board on account of the hardship of his case to have refunded him the money he has expended thereon and take said Gore was read and referred to the Finance Committee

A Petition of John Jacob Astor for a Water Grant in front of his premises Lot No 458 in the Clinton tract at Greenwich Village was read and referred to the Finance Committee

A Petition of the National Insurance Company stating that in consequence of severe losses they are much reduced and praying to be released part payment of their Tax was read and referred to the Finance Committee.

A Petition of Mrs Charlotte Bates stating that some time since she employed one of the City Marshals to collect a Debt for her, which he did, but did not account to her for the same Whereupon she commenced a Suit and the costs being more than the debt prays to be relieved from the payment of said Costs was read and referred to the Finance Committee

An Account amounting to $50, was [191] presented from John Leveridge for attending Court in New Jersey in the case of Joshua Mersereau Deputy Sheriff of Richmond County accompanied with a Letter from George Wood Esquire residing at New Brunswick on same subject were read and referred to the Law Committee

A Communication & Statement from J Guion relative to cleaning the Public Streets was read laid on the Table & directed to be printed for the use of the Members.

A Proposal from T Smith to sweep and keep Clean the paved Streets of this City was read laid on the Table and directed to be printed for the use of the Members.

A Petition of John A Fink for Stall No 5 Spring street Market was read and referred to the Market Committee

A Petition of John Hutton for a Stall in Greenwich Market was read and referred to the Market Committee
