CHAPTER XII.

An ACT enabling Joseph Williams, Committee of Clement Brown, a Lunatick, to sell and convey real estate.

HEREAS it appears by the proceedings had in the court of common pleas, for the city and county of Philadelphia, that a certain Clement Brown of the said city, has been found and declared to be a lunatick, or non compos mentis; and that Joseph Williams has by the said court, been appointed a committee of the person and estate of the said Clement Brown. And whereas it has been represented to the legislature by the said Joseph Williams, that the said Clement Brown is interested in certain lands within the state of Pennsylvania, but that the same are wholly unproductive; and that the said Clement Brown has no personal estate, nor any other real estate, producing an income whereby he may be supported, and that the sale of the said land is necessary to his maintenance: Therefore,

CHAPTER XIII.

An ACT to incorporate the Bible Society of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS a number of the citizens of this common

wealth of different religious denominations, have formed themselves into a society under the name of "The Bible Society of Philadelphia," for the purpose of publishing and distributing gratuitously the oly Scriptures among the poor, and such other description of persons as may be in need of these sources of Christian Comfort and Hope: And whereas the members of this society have by memorial to the legislature, prayed to be incorporated: Therefore,

SECT. I. E it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That William White F. C. Hopkins, the present managers of said society, together with the other members thereof, be, and they are hereby made and constituted a corporation and body politic, in law and in fact, by the name, style and title of, "The Bible Society of Philadelphia," and shall have all the rights, powers and privileges, incident by law to a corporation.

SECT. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid,

That the estate and property of what kind soever the same may be now held, and which at any time hereafter shall be acquired by the said society, shall be vested in the said managers and their successors, duly elected, who shall by the name and title aforesaid, be able and capable in law to purchase, receive, take, the incorpor and hold, for the use and benefit of said society, any land, ation. tenements, hereditaments, and any sum or sums of money, goods and chattels, by the gift, alienation, devise or bequest of any person or persons, bodies, politic or corporate capable to make the same: Provided, That the clear yearly value or income of the messuages, houses, land and tenements, rents, annuities, monies lent and other hereditaments, and real estate of the said company or by &c. not to corporation, and the interest of the monies lent by the same shall exceed not exceed the sum of ten thousand dollars.

SECT. III. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the following articles, shall be the fundamental laws of said corporation.

SECT. IV. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That no misnomer of the said corporation in any deed, will, testament, gift, grant, devise or other instrument of contract or conveyance shall vitiate or defeat the same, if the said corporation shall be sufficiently described to ascertain the intention of the party or parties, to give, devise, bequeath or assure to, or contract with the corporation hereby created by the style and title aforesaid, nor shall any non use, unless for a greater term than five years of the privileges hereby granted, create any forfeiture of the same,

CHAPTER XV.

An ACT affording immediate relief to Michael Mullen, and granting him an annuity.

WHER

HEREAS it appears that Michael Mullen enlisted in the service of his country at an early period of the revolutionary war, in which he continued to the end thereof, and in consequence of a wound received in the service of his country at the battle of Monmouth, and infirmities occasioned by the fatigues of the war, together with old age, he is now entirely rendered incapable of gaining a livelihood by labour: Therefore,
