Mr. STUBBS offered the following resolution:

The sad intelligence has just been received of the death of Arthur O. Sullivan, Esq., the First Doorkeeper of the House of Delegates; be it, therefore, resolved,

First. That since his election as First Doorkeeper of the House in 1869, he has been elected every session up to the present time, except the sessions of 1881-2, and rendered himself popular with all of the members, and discharged every duty with promptness, cheerfulness, efficiency and ability.

Second. That his devotion to Virginia and his gallantry as a Confederate soldier was shown on many bloody battle-fields, and he received a wound at the battle of the Wilderness which caused him to limp through life with but one limb, and thereby strengthened the Confederate tie that exists between old veterans of 1861-5.

Third. That we mourn to-day the loss of a true friend, a man of high character and a noble Virginia gentleman.

Fourth. That the SPEAKER of the House appoint a committee of three to attend his funeral at Christiansburg, and that the Assistant Clerk of the House accompany the committee, and that the committee select a suitable floral design to be placed on the grave of the good man.

Fifth. That as a further evidence of respect, the House do now adjourn.

Which was agreed to.

The SPEAKER appointed Messrs. STUBBS, BOWMAN, and HEERMANS the committee.
