IN EXECUTIVE SESSION, SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES,

June 28, 1886.

Resolved, That the entire Executive Journal of the Senate, from the 23d February, 1829, the date to which the said proceedings have already been printed and published by order of the Senate, be printed, to the end of the last session of the Fortieth Congress, under the direction of the Secretary of the Senate, with a copious and comprehensive index to each volume, and that one hundred copies thereof be printed.

Resolved, That until the further order of the Senate the said print shall not be made public.

The following messages were received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Nicolay, his secretary:

I nominate David Davis, of Illinois, to be an associate justice of the supreme court of the United States.

I nominate Ferdinand Maxwell, of the Territory of New Mexico, to be agent for the Indians in the Territory of New Mexico; also Levi J. Keithly, of the Territory of New Mexico, to be agent for the Indians in the Territory of New Mexico; also Justin Harlan, of Illinois, to be agent for the Indians of the Cherokee Agency, vice Charles W. Chatterton, deceased; also Abel Lawrence Foster, of Virginia, to be agent for the Chippewas of the Mississippi, vice Lucius C. Walker, deceased; also Henry W. Martin, of Kansas, to be agent for the Indians of the Sac and Fox Agency, vice C. C. Hutchinson, removed; all of whom were commissioned during the recess of the Senate.

I nominate Dan H. Ball, of Michigan, to be register of the land office at Marquette, Michigan; also

James M. Rosse, of California, to be register of the land office at San Francisco, California; also

Chauncey Noteware, of Nevada Territory, to be receiver of public moneys for the district of Nevada; also

F. P. Ramirez, of California, to be register of the land office at Los Angeles, California.

I nominate Charles A. Murdock, of California, to be register of the land office at Humboldt, California; also John H. Hawes, of Iowa, to be principal clerk of surveys in the General Land Office.
