Who art thou that shouldest be a- fraid of man ?1

He cometh forth like a flower and is cut down;

He fleeth as a shadow and con- tinueth | not.2 Trust in him who liveth | for ever. 3

Fear ye not the reproach of men,

Neither be ye a- fraid of their re- | vilings;

For the moth shall eat them up like a garment. Trust in him who liveth for ever.3

THE UNSEARCHABLENESS OF GOD.

Opening Chant.

Humphrey.

Habernacles, O Lord

OW amiable are thy

of hosts;

Blessed are they that | dwell in thy house, They will be still praising thee.

A day in thy courts is better than a thousand.

I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house | of my God,

Than to dwell in the 1 tents of wicked-ness.

For the Lord God is a 1 Isun and shield:

The Lord will give | grace and glory:

No good thing will he with-hold

perfection? it is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? the measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable:2 Who hath directed the Spirit of the Lord, or being his counsellor hath taught him? with whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding ?3

Congregation.

There is no searching of his understanding.4 Wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.5

Minister.

To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? 6 who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth

Congregation.

Who is so great a God as our God? thou art the God that doest wonders.3

Minister.

[God's Unsearchableness in
nature.]

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened or who laid the corner stone thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy 24
