In this statute I think the now obsolete verb foreslow evidently signifies to delay" or neglect" and in this passage from Shakspeare to loiter" or "delay."

Parson, persona, in the legal signification is taken for the rector of a church parochial, and is called persona ecclesiae, because he assumeth and taketh upon him the parson of the church, and is said to be seised in jure ecclesiae, and the law had an excellent end therein, viz. that in his person the church might sue for and defend her right; and also be sued by any that had an elder and better right; and when the church is full, it is said to be plena et consulta of such a one parson thereof, that is, full and provided of a parson, that may vicem seu personam ejus gerere. (Co. Litt. 300 b.) Or he is called parson as he is bound by virtue of his office, in propria persona servire deum. (Fleta, lib. 9. cap. 18.)

Selden says 1. Though we write parson differently, yet 'tis but person; that is, the individual person set apart for the service of such a church, and 'tis in Latin persona and personatus is a parsonage. Indeed with the canon lawyers, personatus is dignity or preferment in the church. 2. There never was a merry world since the fairies left dancing and the parson left conjuring. The opinion of the latter kept thieves in awe, and did as much good in a country as a justice of peace (Selden's Table Talk). In the XXIV chapter of 13. Edward I. (Westminster the Second) are these words,

Eodem modo sicut persona alicujus ecclesiae recuperare potest communiam pasture per breve novae disseisinae, eodem modo de caetero recuperet successor super disseisitorem, vel ejus haeredem per breve, quod permittat, licet hujusmodi breve prius in cancellaria non fuerit concessum."

which in Coke's second Institute have been translated thus, In like manner as a parson of a church may recover common of pasture by writ of novel disseisin, likewise from henceforth his successor shall a quod permittat against the disseisor or his heir, though a like writ were never granted out of the Chancery before. (2. Inst. 404.)
