SUPERIOR AND PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION. 1.-COLLEGES FOR WOMEN. The separation of this class of institutions into two divisions has been found to work quite successfully. It is hoped that a greater number of institutions will gradually raise their standards sufficiently to be included in Division A of Table 2. The only one that bas been added to this division since the publication of the Report for 1887–88 is Mount Holyoke Seminary and College, South Hadley, Mass., which has lately been granted a charter, and now possesses full collegiate powers. The number of institutions included in Table 2 is 198, which is 9 less than were reported in 1887–88. This decrease in numbers is due, very likely, to failure on the part of these institutions to report their statistics. Tables 1 and 2 present the summarized and detailed statistics of these institutions, 1070 |
