No. 27, House bill to amend and re-enact section 753 of the Code of Virginia, as amended and re-enacted by an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 753 of the Code of Virginia, relating to State depositories, approved February 3, 1900, as amended and re-enacted by an act entitled an act to amend section 753 of the Code of Virginia, as amended in relation to State depositories, approved March 15, 1902, and as amended and re-enacted by an act entitled an act to amend section 753 of the Code of Virginia, as amended in relation to State depositories, approved April 2, 1902.

No. 25, House bill was, on motion of Mr. CLARKE, passed by.

A communication from the Senate, by their Clerk, was read as follows:

In Senate, November 22d, 1902.

The Senate has agreed to House joint resolution to ascertain the term of office for which the twenty-four Circuit Judges of the State are to be elected at the first election of judges by the General Assembly under the Constitution, which went into effect at noon on the 10th day of July, 1902.

House resolution to provide twenty-five copies of Pollard's Supplement to the Code for the use of committees of the House of Delegates, having been considered by the committee in session was reported from the Committee on Finance.

The SPEAKER laid the resolution before the House.

On motion of Mr. CABELL, the resolution was passed by.

Leave of absence was granted the following members:
Mr. ARMSTRONG, three days on motion of Mr. LAWSON.
Mr. LEAKE, one day, on motion of Mr. HUFF.
Mr. COLEMAN, five days, on motion of Mr. MORT.

Mr. WEST offered the following joint resolution.

Whereas, the Governor of the Commonwealth, the State Board of Education, and the Richmond Education Association have invited the Southern Education Board to hold its next annual conference in the city of Richmond; therefore, be it

Resolved, by the General Assembly of Virginia, That this body heartily concurs in the said invitation, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Robert C. Ogden, the president of the Southern Education Board.

By Mr. FULTON: A bill to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of Dickenson county to settle and compromise with the sureties of C. W. Powers, ex-treasurer of Dickenson county, a certain judgment docketed against them in the office of the clerk of the County Court of Dickenson county.

By Mr. WHITEHEAD: A resolution passed at meeting of the executive committee of the Jamestown Exposition Company, requesting an appropriation of not less than $50,000 to the exposition to be held at St. Louis.

And, on motion of Mr. SOUTHALL, was passed by.

On motion of Mr. Boaz, the House adjourned.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1902.

On motion of Mr. JORDAN, of Nansemond, the reading of the Journal was dispensed with.

Mr. SMITH, of Clarke, moved to discharge the Joint Committee on Special, Private and Local Legislation from the further consideration of a bill to authorize and direct the Board of Supervisors of Clarke county to build, construct and maintain a toll bridge at or near Castleman's Ferry, in said county, and to build, construct and maintain a toll bridge at or near Berry's Ferry, in said county of Clarke, over the Shenandoah river; to issue county bonds to the extent of forty thousand dollars for the purpose of raising money for the construction of said bridges; to receive any subscriptions that may be made for said purpose; to provide for the collection, custody and application of said tolls; and to validate an election held in the county of Clarke, November 4th, 1902, approving an issue of the bonds of said county, to the amount of forty thousand dollars, for the purpose of constructing said toll bridges.

Which was agreed to-yeas, 74.

House bill to amend and re-enact section 1 of an act approved March 25, 1902, entitled an act prohibiting the manufacture and sale of certain intoxicating liquors in certain counties of the Commonwealth, so as to exempt the county of Dickenson from the further operation of the said act.
