AN ACT

Making an appropriation to the board of trustees of the Philadelphia Museums, for the preparation and special distribution of educational collections to the public schools throughout Pennsylvania.

Whereas, The board of trustees of the Philadelphia Museums, a body constituted by the city of Philadel phia, is constantly receiving, from all part of the world, material of great illustrative value in the teaching of commercial and industrial geography, economics and the arts and sciences; and

Whereas, The usefulness of said material for educational purposes has already been amply proven by the free distribution of separate educational collections to many of the high and normal schools of this Commonwealth, and the board of trustees has received from other schools many applications for such materials, which cannot be met owing to lack of funds at its disposal for such purposes:

Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated to the board of trustees of the Philadelphia Museums, for the further distribution of educational material to the public schools of the Commonwealth; said distribution to be made upon request of the proper school authorities, presented through the Senators and Representatives representing their respectives districts.

sary, be and the same is hereby specifically appro- Appropriation. priated to the Allegheny General Hospital, of Allegheny City, for the two fiscal years beginning June first, one thousand nine hundred and three, for the purpose of maintenance: Provided, That in consideration of this appropriation, there shall be ten free beds maintained, which shall be filled upon the certificate of the mayor, the director of the department of public safety, or the poor board, of the proper city or county, on presentation of such certificate to the officers of the hospital, in the order in which applications are made, after examination as to the propriety of such certificate being given.

Making an appropriation to the Pennsylvania Industrial Reformatory, at Huntingdon.

Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That the following sums, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same are hereby specifically appropriated to the Pennsylvania Industrial Reformatory, at Huntingdon, for the two fiscal years commencing June first, one thousand nine hundred and three, for the fol lowing specific purposes, namely:

For purchase and construction of new bake-oven, the sum of one thousand one hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary.

For material for a new roof on the barn, the sum of three hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary.

For each discharged or paroled inmate, whose residence is within fifty miles of Huntingdon, five dollars; and for each discharged or paroled inmate, whose residence is more than fifty miles from Huntingdon, the sum of ten dollars.

Making an appropriation to the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Museums, for the care and installation of the raw and manufactured products and commercial_materials, for the benefit of the commerce of the State of Pennsylvania

Whereas, The Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Museums, a body constituted by the city of Philadelphia, has gathered from all parts of the world material of great value, illustrating the resources, pro

duction, industries and commerce of all races and peoples; and

Whereas, Said material is especially valuable for whereas II. commercial and educational purposes, and has been the subject of study by manufacturers and teachers from all parts of the State, and special collections have been supplied by the Museums to many high and normal schools for greater facility in the teaching of commerce and commercial geography; therefore,

Section 1. AN ACT

Making an appropriation for the erection of a monument or statue commemorative of the engagement that took place on the streets and around the town of Hanover, on June the thirtieth, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three.

Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That the sum of seven thousand five hundred dollars is hereby appropriated, for the purpose of erecting a suitable monument in Hanover, York county, to commemorate the event of the engagement which took place on the streets and around the town of Hanover, on June the thirtieth, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three; and that the Governor, and two persons to be appointed by him, shall supervise the erection of the said monument, and shall serve without compensation.

AN ACT

Making an appropriation to the Free Hospital for Poor Consumptives.

Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That the sum of one hundred and fifteen thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is hereby specifically appropriated to the Free Hospital for Poor Consumptives, for the two fiscal years beginning June first, one thousand nine hundred and three, to be applied as follows:

For the purpose of maintenance, the sum of fifty thousand dollars.

For the purpose of assisting in the erection of new buildings, the sum of sixty-five thousand dollars.

Section 2. Provided, That no part of the money herein appropriated for buildings shall become available until the Governor, Auditor General and State Treasurer shall have filed in the office of the Auditor General and State Treasurer a certificate, setting forth that the condition of the revenues of the Commonwealth will permit the expenditure of the total amount herein appropriated.

Provided further, That no part of said appropriation herein made for hospital buildings shall be paid by the State Treasurer until there shall have been
