Mr. Chairman, I wish to renew my expression of my interest in several relatively small projects but which are very vital to the localities in which they are. One is Quinby over in Accomack County. I was over in that section the past week end. Senator CAIN. May I ask, Senator Robertson, if they are mentioned in the bill that came to us from the House. Senator ROBERTSON. No; these are new projects, but they have been very fully discussed in your hearings. The Quinby project is rated by the Corps of Engineers, I think, 4 to 1 or 6 to 1, a very high ratio. Colonel GEE. That is correct. Senator ROBERTSON. It is the largest fish and oyster section over there. They need an 8-foot channel and they are willing to do that part of it. There were two other projects I sent up memorandums on but I could not personally testify about which are in eastern Virginia-Davis Creek and Winter Harbor. They have both been fully explained and testified to. But after the hearings closed, my attention was called to another project which seems of very urgent need, for shore protection at Colonial Beach, Va. I have a memorandum of a page and a half explaining that. I do not know whether it would be the pleasure of the committee for me to outline that in full or just submit that to you. Senator MCCLELLAN. You may put the statement in the record and make a general statement if you wish. |
