of this Act, it shall be lawful for any Conftables, Headboroughs, Patrols, Beadles, or Watchmen (and they are hereby ftrictly charged and required and directed fo to do), or for any other Perfon or Perfons whomfoever, without any Warrant or other Authority than this Act, to apprehend and carry any Perfon or Perfons guilty of the faid Offences, or either of them, to any Watch-house of the parochial or other Diftrict wherein fuch Offence fhall have been committed, or to any other Place of Confinement or Security, and from thence to convey him, her, or them, as foon as conveniently may be, before fome Justice of the Peace for the City, Borough, or County wherein fuch parochial or other District shall be fituate, who (upon Oath or Affirmation made of fuch Offence or Offences as aforefaid) fhall commit every fuch Offender or Of fenders to the House of Correction for the fame City, Borough, or County wherein such parochial or other District fhall be fituate as aforefaid, for any Time not exceeding Thirty Days, to be computed from the Day of Commitment; and the Owner or Owners of any Carts, Carriages, Horses, or Beasts employed in and about emptying or removing fuch Night Soil, or coming for that Purpose (fave and except within the Hours hereby allowed), or the Employer or Employers of any Perfon or Perfons who fhall fo put or caft out any fuch Night Soil, fhall forfeit the Sum of Five Pounds for every such Offence; and any Person or Perfons may feize fuch Carts or Carriages, or the Horfes or Beasts drawing the fame, with the Gears, Harness, and Accoutrements, and remove or take fuch Carts or Carriages, Horfes or Beafts, to fuch Place in the faid parochial or other District as may be appointed for fuch or fimilar Purposes, if any fuch there be, or otherwise to fuch Place or Places as the Surveyor or Surveyors of the Pavements of fuch parochial or other District fhall order and direct, there to be detained until the Owner or Owners, Employer

ployer or Employers, fhall pay the said Penalty, together with all Cofts, Charges, and Expences incurred in and about or relating to the Seizure, removing, and keeping the faid Carts or Carriages or Horses, or in any Manner incidental thereto; and in cafe the fame fhall not be demanded, and the faid Penalty, and all fuch Cofts, Charges, and Expences, to be ascertained and determined by the Surveyor or Surveyors of the Pavements of the faid parochial or other District for the Time being, and within Five Days next after such Seizure, then it shall be lawful for fuch Surveyor or Surveyors to order the fame to be appraised and fold, and the Money arifing therefrom fhall be applied in Payment of fuch Penalty and Cofts, Charges and Expences; and after deducting the fame, the Overplus, as fo ascertained by the faid Surveyor or Surveyors, may be paid to the Owner or Owners thereof, when he or they shall apply for the fame; and alfo that One Moiety of fuch Penalty fhall belong to and fhall be paid to or among the Perfon or Perfons giving Information of fuch Offences, or any of them, and apprehending the Offender or Offenders, and feizing, removing, and detaining fuch Carts or Carriages, and Horses or Beasts, as herein-before is authorized and directed.

LXXV. And be it further enacted, That no Per- Hoards to be fon or Persons whomfoever shall erect, place, fet up, erected, but or build, in any Street or other public Place in any Leave. parochial or other District within the Jurisdiction of this Act, at any Time or Times hereafter, any Hoard or Scaffolding, or place or erect any Posts, Bars, Rails, Boards, or other Thing, by way of Inclosure, for the Purpose of making Mortar, or of depofiting or fifting, screening or flacking any Bricks, Stone, Lime, Sand, or any other Materials for building or repairing any Houfe or other Tenement or Erection, or for other Works, or for any other Purpose, without Leave or Licence firft had and obtained under the Hand or Hands of the Surveyor

veyor or Surveyors for the Time being of the Pavements of such parochial or other District, who is and are hereby required to grant the fame forthwith for the Purpose of making Mortar, and depofiting or fifting, fcreening or flacking any Bricks, Stone, Lime, Sand, or any other Materials for building or repairing any House or other Tenement or Erection, specifying therein the Length of Time for which the fame when fo erected or fet up may be continued, and giving fuch other Directions respecting the fame as he or they may think neceffary, on being paid by every Perfon fo applying for fuch Licence the Sum of Two Shillings and Sixpence; and that if any Perfon or Perfons shall erect, place, set up, or build, or cause or permit to be erected, placed, fet up, or built, any such Hoard or Scaffolding, or any Inclosure, Pofts, Bars, or Rails, or any other Matter or Thing for the Purposes aforesaid, or for any other Purpose, without the Leave or Licence, figned as aforefaid, of the faid Surveyor or Surveyors of the Pavements fo had and obtained, or fhall erect, fet up, or build the fame, or cause or permit the fame to be fet up or erected in any other Manner, or to be continued for any longer Time than fhall be allowed or expreffed in fuch Licence, then and in either of the faid Cafes fuch Perfon or Perfons, or the Perfon or Perfons by whom he or they fhall or may be employed, fhall forfeit and pay the Sum of Ten Shillings for every Day that the fame fhall have been and fhall be fet up and continued; and alfo that it shall and may be lawful for the faid Commiffioners or Trustees or other Perfons having the Control of the Pavements of fuch parochial or other District, or for the faid Surveyor or Surveyors of the Pavements for the Time being, to cause the same to be pulled down and removed, and the fame and all the Materials thereof, and of every Part thereof, to be kept and detained until fuch Perfon or Perfons shall and do pay to the faid Surveyor or Surveyors

Charges aforefaid shall not be paid within the Space
of Five Days next after the pulling down and Re-
moval thereof, then it shall and may be lawful to
and for the faid Commiffioners or Trustees, or other
Perfons as aforefaid, or for their Surveyor or Sur-
veyors of the Pavements, to order or cause the fame
to be appraised and fold; and the Money arifing
therefrom, after deducting all the said Charges, fhall
be paid
to the Treasurer or Treasurers of the faid
Commiffioners or Trustees or other Persons as
aforefaid, or to fuch other Perfon or Perfons as
they from Time to Time fhall or may direct or
appoint.

LXXVI. And be it further enacted, That the faid CommiffionCommiffioners or Trustees, or other Perfons having ers may direc the Control of the Pavements of the Streets and Streets to be distinguished, public Places in any parochial or other District with- and Houses in the Jurifdiction of this Act, may order and direct to be numall and every the Houses and other Tenements or bered; Buildings within all or any of the Streets and other public Places within their respective parochial or other District (if no other public Body fhall poffefs and have exercised fuch Power) to be numbered with Figures placed or painted upon or over the Doors thereof, or fuch other Part of the faid Houses, Tenements, or other Buildings respectively, as they the faid Commiffioners or Trustees or other Perfons as aforefaid, or their Surveyor or Surveyors of the Pavements for the Time being, fhall think proper; and may also order and direct to be engraved, painted, or otherwise described on a confpicuous Part of any House, Tenement, or other Building, at or near the End or Corner of each Street and other

other public Place, the Name by which such refpec-
tive Street and public Place is ufually or properly
called or known; and if any Perfon or Perfons shall
wilfully destroy, injure, obliterate, or deface any
fuch Number, Figure, Name, or Description, or
any Part thereof, or cause or procure the fame to
be destroyed, injured, obliterated, or defaced, and
fhall be convicted thereof by his or their own Con-
feffion, or by the Oath or Affirmation of any One
or more credible Witness or Witnesses, before any
Justice of the Peace for the City, Borough, or
County wherein fuch parochial or other District
fhall be fituate, and which Oath or Affirmation fuch
Justice is hereby empowered to adminifter, every
fuch Perfon fo offending for every fuch Offence
fhall forfeit and pay the Sum of Forty Shillings;
and also, that when any Number, Figure, Name,
or Description fhall be engraven, painted, or other-
wife described, placed, or affixed as aforefaid on
any House, Tenement, or other Building within
any parochial or other District within the Jurifdic-
tion of this Act, and the fame or any Part thereof
shall be destroyed, injured, obliterated, or defaced,
the Owner or Owners, Occupier or Occupiers of
any
fuch House, Tenement, or other Building where
the Number, Figure, Name, or other Description,
or any Part thereof, fhall have been so destroyed,
injured, obliterated, or defaced, upon Notice given
to or left for him or them at fuch House, Tenement,
or Building, or at his or their last or most usual Place
of Abode, figned by the Surveyor or Surveyors
of the Pavements to the Commiffioners or Trustees
or other Perfons having the Control of the Pave-
ments in fuch parochial or other District, or by
fuch other Perfon or Perfons as the faid Com-
miffioners or Trustees or other Perfons as aforefaid
fhall appoint, fhall cause the fame Number, Figure,
Name, or Description to be in the fame or like
Manner engraven, painted, or described, placed or
affixed, on such House, Tenement, and other Build-
