The Senate proceeded to the first reading an consideration of Senate bill No. 23, entitled "An act authorizing the Attorney General to retain and employ attorneys to represent the Comonwealth in criminal proceedings in the various courts of oyer and terminer, general jail delivery, and quarter sessions, if in his opinion the circumstances warrant it, providing for the compensation of such attorneys, and defining their duties and powers."

And said bill having been read at length the first time, Ordered, To be laid aside for second reading.

That the foregoing Senate bill No. 23 be re-committed to the Committee on Judiciary General.

Which was agreed to.

A motion was made by Mr. Keyser,

That Senate bill No. 1, on third reading, entitled "A joint resolution to provide for the participation of the State of Pennsylvania in the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, to be held in the city of Portland, Oregon, in the year one thousand nine hundred and five, in commemoration of the one hundredth anniversary of the exploration of the Oregon country by an expedition planned by President Jefferson, and commanded by Captain Merriweather Lewis and William Clark, and providing for the appointment of a commission, and making an appropriation to defray the expenses of the same," be re-committed to the Committee on Exposition Affairs.

Which was agreed to.

A motion was made by Mr. Brown,

That Senate bill No. 5, on third reading, entitled "An act in reference to the eligibility of road jurors and jurors of view," be recommitted to the Committee on Judiciary General.

Which was agreed to.

A motion was made by Mr. Hill,

That Senate bill No. 7, on third reading, entitled "An act to create the Department of Public Printing and Binding, to carry out the provisions of section twelve, article three of the Constitution in relation to the public printing and binding and the sup ply of paper and other materials therefor," be re-committed to the Committee on Public Printing.

Which was agreed to.

A motion was made by Mr. White,

That the Senate do now adjourn.

Mr. Cummings asked and obtained leave of absence for Mr. Stineman for to-day, and for Mr. Matson for the balance of the week.

The Chair laid before the Senate a memorial of the Philadelphia Board of Trade, recommending to the consideration of the Legislature the wisdom and pressing necessity of the enactment of a bill providing for personal registration in cities of this Commonwealth.

Which was referred to the Committee on Elections.

Mr. White, from the Committee on Appropriations, to which was committed a bill, entitled "A joint resolution to provide for the participation by the National Guard of Pennsylvania in the inaugural ceremonies of Theodore Roosevelt, President-elect of the United States, to be held in the city of Washington, D. C., March 4, 1905, and making an appropriation to pay the expenses of a provisional brigade selected for that purpose."

Mr. Godcharles, from the Committee on Military Affairs, to which was committed a bill, entitled "An act for the appointment and maintenance of a board to be known as the Armory Board
