AN ACT to amend an act entitled "an act provid-
ing for the election of Electors of President and
Vice President of the United States," approved
March, 2, 1819.

AFPROVED, November 29, 1824.

Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That it shall be the duty of the Governor, or person ad- Districts. ministering the government for the time being, to divide the state into electoral districts, on the first Monday in June quadriennially, instead of the arct Monday in September, as provided by the act to which this is an amendment. It shall be the duty of the secretary of state, auditor and treasurer, or any two of them, in the presence of the governor, or person administering the government, immediately when said returns shall have been so made,to proceed to open and canvas said election returns, and to ascertain and declare the person having the highest number of legal votes, in each of the districts, elected, but should any two or more persons be returned from the same district with an equal and the highest vote, then the said secretary, auditor and treasurer, or any two of them, shall decide by lot, in the presence of the governor as aforesaid, which of the persons so equal and high

So much of the act to which this is an amendment, as comes within the perview of this act, be, and the same is hereby, repealed. This act to be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT for the Relief of Robert Hamilton.
APPROVED, December 7, 1824.

Sec: 1. Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That the county commissioners of the county of Sangamon, be authorized and required to pay to Robert Hamilton, or his legal representative, the sum of eighty dollars and seventy-five cents, with interest from the time such payment should have been made, deducting therefrom such sum as has already been paid to the said Robert Hamilton, for and on account of building the jail of said county: and the said commissioners are further authorized to allow and pay to the said Hamilton such damages as they may deem just and proper.
