Mr. Beale presented six petitions of similar tenor, from sundry inhabitants of Mifflin county, praying for a division of said county; and The same were read and referred to the committee of the whole when they shall have under consideration the bill to which they relate. The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from William Find lay, state treasurer, transmitting a detailed statement of the contingent expenses of the treasury office for the last year, agreeably to law, amounting to 526 dollars and 17 cents, and soliciting a re-appointment to the office of state treasurer; and The said letter and statement were read, and laid on the table. The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from Robert Ralston, treasurer of the Bible Society of Philadelphia, transmitting therewith agreeably to law, a report of that society containing an abstract of their transactions for the year ending in May last; and Said letter was read, and with the report Ordered, To lie on the table. Mr. I Weaver from the committee on claims, to whom was referred on the 2d instant the petition of Thomas Curtis, on leave given, reported a bill, entitled An act for the relief of Thomas Curtis ;' which was read the first time. The bill, entitled An additional supplement to an act, entitled, an act directing the mode of selecting and returning jurors, was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole yesterday, considered by section and agreed to. Ordered, That said bill be transcribed for a third reading. The following resolution was twice read, considered and adopt ed, to wit. Resolved, That a committee be appointed, in conjunction with a committee of the House of Representatives, (if that House shall appoint such committee,) to examine and report whether any and what measures are necessary for the better preservation and increase of the library belonging to the two Houses. Mr. Murray presented the petition and documents of Peter Ent, Christian Brobst and William Brewer, praying that they may be authorized by law to retain possession of and occupy a certain sand bar in the river Susquehanna, opposite the town of Catta wissa in Columbia county; and Said petition was read and referred to Mr. Murray, Mr. Forster and Mr. Beale, with leave to report by bill or otherwise. Mr. Maghee presented the petition of Eleanor Foy, stating that her husband John Foy was attached to captain Michael Knor's company of militia late in the service of the United States, and that previously to the expiration of his term of service be died, leaving her poor and destitute, she therefore prays relief; and Said petition was read, and referred to the committee on claims. Mr. Beale presented three petitions of similar tenor, from sundry inhabitants of Dauphin, Mifflin, Huntingdon and Centre counties, praying that a law may be passed to authorize the gov ernor to incorporate a company for the purpose of erecting a bridge over the river Susquehanna at Clark's Ferry in the counties of Dauphin and Cumberland, and that they may be aided by the state in the erection thereof; and Said petitions were read and referred to Mr. Beale, Mr. Rogers, Mr. Maghee, Mr. Graham, Mr. Erwin, Mr. Murray and Mr. Power. Mr. Reed from the committee appointed for the purpose on the 19th December, reported a bill, entitled An act authorizing the governor to incorporate a company to make an artificial road from Martin Regars in Cambria county to intersect the road from the bank of the river opposite Harrisburg to Pittsburg, at or near Greensburg;' which was read the first time. Mr. M Sherry from the committee appointed for the purpose, made report in part, which was read as follows, to wit. That in conjunction with a similar committee of the House of Representatives, they have compared and this day presented to the governor for his approbation, the bills, entitled as follow: 1. A supplement to an act, entitled, an act to erect the town of Hanover in the county of York, into a borough. 2. An act to vest in Sarah Vernon the estate of her natural son Emmor Vernon, late of Delaware county, deceased. 3. An act authorizing Mary M'Creary, one of the guardians of the persons and estates of the minor children of Thomas M'Creary, deceased, to execute and receive certain releases therein mentioned, and to repeal an act heretofore passed relating thereto. 4. An act vesting the title of a certain piece of land, in Somerset township, and county of Washington, in certain trustees and their successors, for the use of the German Lutheran and Calvinist Congregations, in said township. 5. An act releasing to Christopher Hassinger and Elizabeth Hess the right of this commonwealth, to a certain escheated estate. 6. A further supplement to an act, entitled, an act to enable the governor of this commonwealth, to incorporate a company for making an artificial road from the intersection of Front street and the Germantown road, in the Northern Liberties of the city of Philadelphia, through Frankford and Bristol to the ferry at Morrisville on the river Delaware. The bill, entitled An additional supplement to an act, entitled, an act directing the mode of selecting and returning jurors,' was read the third time, and Resolved, That this bill pass. Ordered, That the clerk present the said bill to the House of Representatives for concurrence. Mr. Frailey presented two petitions of similar tenor, from sundry inhabitants of Northampton county, praying that Henry Jarrett may be authorized by law to erect a toll bridge across the river Lehigh at or near Currie's Ferry in said county; and The same were read, and laid on the table. Mr. Morgan presented the petition of the president and managers of the Schuylkill navigation company, praying for the reasens stated, that a law may be passed making certain alterations in their act of incorporation; and Said petition was read, and referred to Mr. Morgan, Mr. Frailey, Mr. Shannon, Mr. Forster and Mr. G. Weaver. Mr. Jarrett presented the petition of sundry inhabitants of the borough of Easton, praying that a law may be passed to prevent the forestalling and regrating of provisions in and near the said borough; and The same was read, and referred to Mr. Jarrett, Mr. Reed and Mr. Maghee. Mr. Lowrie from the committee to whom was referred on the 2d instant, an item of unfinished business relative to incorporating the borough of Pittsburg, on leave given, reported a bill, entitled An act to incorporate the city of Pittsburg;' which was read the first time.
