An act authorizing the purchase of a certain number of copies of the work of Samuel Roberts on the British statutes in force in Pennsylvania,' was read the third time, and

Resolved, That this bill pass.

The bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

An act to incorporate the town of Strasburg, in the county of Lancaster,' was read the third time, and

Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the clerk return said bills to the House of Representatives, with information that Senate have passed the same, the former without, and the two latter with amendments, in which the concurrence of that house is requested.

An act to authorize Andrew Flemming, to erect and maintain

a toll bridge over Oil creek in the county of Venango,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole yesterday, considered by section and agreed to, and

Ordered, That it be prepared for a third reading.

The bill, entitled

A supplement to an act, entitled, a further supplement to the act, entitled, an act erecting parts of Northumberland county, into seperate counties to be called Union and Columbia,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole yesterday, considered by section and agreed to, and

Ordered, That it be transcribed for a third reading,

Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Forster in the chair, on the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

• An act for the relief Benjamin Jennings, an old revolutionary soldier.'

And after some time,

The committee rose, reported progress, and asked leave to sit again; leave was granted, and

Ordered, That the committee of the whole sit again on Monday next.

Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Frailey in the chair, on the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

An act to authorize the Governor to incorporate a company for erecting a bridge over the north east branch of the river Susquehanna, between the town of Cattawissa and the mouth of Fishing creek.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported the same with amendments. On motion,

Said bill was read the second time, considered by section and agreed to, and

Ordered, That it be prepared for a third reading.

Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Graham in the chair, on the bill, entitled

An act repealing a part of an act therein mentioned."

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported the first and only section of the bill negatived.

On the question,

Will Senate agree to said report?

It was determined in the affirmative, and the bill lost.

The clerk of the House of Representatives being introduced, presented for concurrence, the bills, entitled as follow, viz.

An act authorizing the Governor to incorporate four companies for making an artificial road from the town of Washington

in this state, to intersect the Harrisburg and Pittsburg turnpike road, at or near the town of Bedford.

An act further to alter and amend the act, entitled, an act to regulate the general elections within this commonwealth.' Also, a Resolution relative to procuring certain imposts on foreign manufactures.

He informed,

That the House of Representatives have concurred in the amendments by Senate, to the bills, entitled as follow, viz.

An act vesting the title of a certain piece of land in Bethel township, and county of Bedford, in certain trustees and their successors, for the use of the Baptist congregation in said township.'

That the House of Representatives have concurred with one amendment, in all the amendments by Senate, to the bill, entitled An act to provide for the erection of two arsenals,' except the following, viz.

Sect. 1. line 5 and 6, strike out at Meadville in the county of Crawford,' and insert on such part of the public ground adjoining the town of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny, as the Governor shall direct.'

Sect. 3. lines 5, make Meadville' read Washington,' in which amendment they have non-concurred.

The bills and resolution presented for concurrence were read the first time.

The amendment by the House of Representatives, to the amendments by Senate, to the bill, entitled

'An act to provide for the erection of two arsenals,' was read as follows, viz.

Sect. 4. line 13, make twenty' read thirty.'

On motion,

Said amendment was again read, considered and non-concur red in.

The Senate proceeded to the consideration of the amendments by Senate, to the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled An act to provide for the erection of two arsenals,' non-concurred in by that house.

Whereupon,

A motion was made by Mr. Lowrie and Mr. Reed,

That Senate insist on their amendments, and

• A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to authorize James Barton and George Biddis, their heirs and assigns, to convey water from a spring or stream of water called the Vandine Kili, into the town of Milford in the county of Pike.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill with amendments, Adjourned until 9 o'clock on Monday morning.

MONDAY, March 11, 1816.

Mr. Welles presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Bradford county, praying that a law may be passed to establish a ferry at the village of Monmouth, and that the exclusive privilege thereof may be vested in the commissioners of said county; and Said petition was read, and

On motion,

Recommended to the early attention of the next legislature. Mr. Lowrie presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of

Allegheny, Butler and Venango counties, praying that a company may be incorporated to make an artificial road from Pittsburg to Franklin, and that the Governor may be authorized to subscribe twenty thousand dollars to aid in constructing the same; and Said petition was read, and

Recommended to the early attention of the next legislature. Mr. Reed presented a petition from Joshua Johnson, administra tor of the estate of Samuel Moss, late of Bedford county, dec'd. sta ting that in the year 1799, a patent issued to a certain Michael Murphy for a tract of land called Armagh,' that the said Murphy afterwards divided the said tract into three parts, and sold one part to Samuel Moss, which he the said Moss afterwards conveyed to a certain John Lancy-that the same tract of land was afterwards by mistake transferred by the said Murphy to Leonard Nickum, who has had the same in possession ever since that period. The petitioner therefore prays that a law may be passed to enable the executors of the said Michael Murphy to make legal titles for the said land; and

Said petition was read, and

On motion,

Recommended to the early attention of the next legislature. Mr. Smith presented a petition from John Ewing Porter, praying that he may be authorized to change his name to John Ewing Parker;

Which was read and laid on the table.

Whereupon,

A motion was made by Mr. Frailey and Mr. Shoemaker,

That the further consideration of said petition be postponed generally; which was agreed to.

The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from Elliston Perot, president of the Philadelphia and Lancaster turnpike road company, transmitting an abstract of the accounts of said company, by which it appears that the stockholders have not as yet derived a dividend of more than four and one half per cent. per annum on the whole cost of the road; and

Said letter was read and laid on the table.

The clerk of the House of Representatives being introduced, informed, that the House of Representatives insist on their amendment to the amendments by Senate, non-concurred in by Senate, to the bill, entitled

An act to provide for the erection of two arsenals.'

He further informed,

That the House of Representatives adhere to their non-concurrence in certain amendments by Senate to said bill, insisted on by Senate; and have appointed Messrs. Sutherland, Buchanan and Morgan a committee, to join a committee of Senate (if Senate shall appoint such committee) to confer on the subject of said amendments.
