He also informed, That the House of Representatives have concurred in the amendments by Senate, to the bills, entitled as follow, viz. A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to enable the Governor to incorporate a company to make an artificial road by the best and nearest route from the west end of the borough of York to the borough of Gettysburg, in the county of Adams." An act to authorize George Eisenhuth, George Orwig, John Orwig and Jacob Orwig, to dig, establish and support a mill race on the north side of Penn's creek, near the town of New Berlin in the county of Union.' An act to erect the town of Indiana in the county of Indiana, into a borough.' Mr. Reed presented a petition from Daniel Marchand and others, executors of the last will and testament of Dr. David Marchand, late of Westmoreland county, deceased, accompanied with documents, stating that in the year 1796, their testator and a certain John Probst purchased at commissioners' sales certain tracts of land in said county sold for the payment of taxes; that deeds were delivered therefor, the amount of the taxes and costs paid in cash and a bond given for the residue of the purchase money, part of which was afterwards paid to Jacob Smith one of the commissioners; that upon its appearing that the said sales were illegally made, said deeds were returned; that the said commissioner refuses to return the money paid on the bond and to cancel the same the petitioners therefore pray relief; and Said petition was read and laid on the table. Mr. I. Weaver from the committee appointed for the purpose on the 1st inst. reported a bill, entitled An act affording relief to persons employed in trade from Pennsylvania, attacked by disease at New Orleans,' which was read the first time. Mr. M.Sherry from the committee appointed for the purpose, made further report in part, which was read as follows, to wit. That in conjunction with a similar committee from the House of Representatives, they have compared, and this day presented to the Governor for his approbation, the bills, entitled as follow, viz. Agreeably to order, The Senate resumed the second reading and consideration of the bill, entitled An act providing for the erection of a state capitol,' postponed for the present on the 17th January last. Section 1. recurring, was considered and agreed to. A motion was made by Mr. Biddle and Mr. Morgan, To postpone the further consideration of the same for the pre sent for the purpose of introducing a new section in the words following, to wit. Sect. 2. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the Governor, be, and he is hereby authorized and required immediately after the passing of this act, to give notice for four weeks successively in two daily newspapers of the city of Philadelphia, and in one newspaper at Lancaster, Harrisburg and Pittsburg respectively, that proposals will be received by him on or before the first Monday in October next, for building the said capitol; which proposals shall state the terms on which the person making such proposals shall be willing to contract for building the same, and shall be accompanied by a ground plan and elevation of the said capitol, and the connection thereof with the offices already erected; which proposals and plans shall be submitted by the Governor to the legislature at its next session, and the plan adopted by the said legislature shall forthwith be carried into execution.
