An act authorizing the trustees of the Methodist Episcopal church in the borough of Chambersburg, to sell a certain lot of ground.'

The committee rose and reported said bill without amendment. On motion,

Said bill was read the second time, considered by section and agreed to.

Ordered, That it be transcribed for a third reading.

Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Morgan in the chair, on the bill, entitled

• An act relating to the sale of a tract of land by the sheriff of Greene county, to William T. Hays in trust for the use of the commonwealth."

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill with one amendment.

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Murray in the chair, on the bill, entitled

An act to authorize the removal of the prisoners confined in the jail or debtors apartment in the city of Philadelphia to the new prision, and for other purposes.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported the same with amendments. On motion,

An act to enable Joseph Crawford and William Hamill, executors to the last will and testament of William Clennal an alien, late of Montgomery county, deceased, to convey certain real

estate.'

The committee rose and reported the same with amendments. On motion,

Said bill was read the second time, considered by section and agreed to, and

Ordered, That it be prepared for a third reading.

The clerk of the House of Representatives being introduced, presented for concurrence the bills, entitled as follow, viz.

'An act to authorise the administrators of Thomas Huchison convey certain real estate.'

An act repealing the act to encourage the raising of swine, so far as the same respects the borough of Mercer.'

• An act to enable the Governor to incorporate a company making an artificial road from Jersey shore in the county of Lycoming, by the best and nearest route to Couder's port in the county of Potter.'

He returned the bill, entitled

An act to regulate the payment of costs in certain cases of trespass therein mentioned."

That the House of Representatives have passed said bill without amendment.

He also informed,

That the House of Representatives have concurred in the amendments by Senate, to the bill, entitled

'An act establishing an academy in the borough of Lebanon in the county of Lebanon.'

He presented for signature, the bills, entitled as follow, viz. An act to incorporate the Bridgeport Manufacturing Company.'

A further supplement to an act, entitled, an act to erect the town of Somerset in Somerset county, into a borough.'

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to authorize the Governor to incorporate a company to make a lock navigation in the river Schuylkill.'

An act supplementary to an act, entitled, an act to enable the Governor to incorporate a company for making an artificial road from the Spring House tavern in Montgomery county, to the borough of Northampton in the county of Lehigh, and to the town of Bethlehem in the county of Northampton.'

An act authorizing the Governor to incorporate the York Water Company."

• An act to extend an act vesting in certain banking institutions within this commonwealth, the power of issuing small notes.' The bills presented for concurrence were read the first time. The Speaker signed the bills presented for signature.

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Reed in the chair, on the bill entitled

An act to relinquish the claims of this commonwealth on account of clothing and blankets furnished to certain volunteers and militia in the year one thousand eight hundred and fourteen.' And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill as committed.
Adjourned until 10 o'clock on Monday morning.

MONDAY, February 5, 1816.

Mr. Hopkins presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Lancaster and York counties, praying a repeal of certain provisions contained in the act of the last legislature relative to fisheries in the river Susquehanna; and

Said petition was read and referred to the committee to whom a was referred on the 1st inst. a similar petition.

Mr. Morgan presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Clearfield county, praying that a further appropriation may be made to aid them in the completion of a road from the town of Indiana in Indiana county, to the state road leading from Milesburg to Presque-Isle; and

Said petition was read and referred to Mr. Morgan, Mr. Beale and Mr. Shannon.

Mr. Lowrie from the committee to whom was re-committed on the 2d inst. the bill, entitled

An act to incorporate the city of Pittsburg,' reported said bill with amendments, which were read.

Mr. M.Sherry from the committee appointed for the purpose, made further report in part, which was read as follows, to wit.

That in conjunction with a similar committee from the House of Representatives, they have compared, and this day presented to the Governor for his approbation, the bills, entitled as follow, viz.

A further supplement to an act, entitled, an act to erect the town of Somerset in Somerset county, into a borough.'

An act to incorporate the Bridgeport Manufacturing Com→ pany.'

An act authorizing the Governor to incorporate the York Water Company.'

Mr. Reed from the committee to whom was referred on the 31st January the petitions of sundry inhabitants of the borough of Greensburg, praying for a law authorizing them to raise by way of lottery a certain sum of money. Reported,

That in their opinion it is inexpedient to grant the prayer of the petitioners. Therefore they offer the following resolution: Resolved, That the prayer of the petitioners ought not to be granted.

On motion,

Said report was read the second time, and the resolution thereto attached, considered and adopted.

The bill, entitled

An act to authorize the Governor to appoint commissioners to lay out a road from the west end of Brighton bridge to the state line, in a direction to Poland in the state of Ohio, was read the third time, and

An act for the improvement of a road beginning at the point where the Coshecton and Great Bend turnpike passes through the Moosic mountain in a western direction to the west line of the state,' was read the third time, and

Ordered, That the clerk return said bills to the House of Res presentatives with information that Senate have passed the same with amendments, in which the concurrence of that house is requested.

The amendments to the first bill were merely verbal.

Mr. Biddle read a bill in his place, and on leave given presented the same to the chair, entitled

An act for the better securing the free navigation of the river Delaware,' which was read the first time.

The bill, entitled
