On motion of Mr. Lowrie and Mr. Power,

The Senate resumed the second reading and consideration of the bill. entitled

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to authorize the Governor to incorporate a company to erect a toll bridge over Big Beaver creek at or near Wolf lane in the county of Beaver.' Section 2. recurring, was considered and agreed to. The title having been agreed to,

· Ordered, That said bill be transcribed for a third reading. Adjourned until 10 o'clock to-morrow morning.

SATURDAY, January 27, 1816.

Mr. Morgan presented the petition of sundry citizens of Philadelphia, praying that a law may be passed exempting the property of the Pennsylvania Hospital from taxation; and The same was read and laid on the table.

Mr. Smith presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Huntingdon courty, praying that a law may be passed incorporating a company for the purpose of erecting a toll bridge over the Juniata river at the borough of Huntingdon; and

Said petition was read and referred to Mr. Smith, Mr. Beale and Mr. Murray with leave to report by bill or otherwise.

Mr. Poe from the committee appointed for the purpose on the 24th inst. reported a bill, entitled

• An act authorizing the trustees of the Methodist Episcopal church in the borough of Chambersburg, to sell a certain lot of ground,' which was read the first time.

Mr. Reed from the committee appointed for the purpose on the 19th December last, reported a bill, entitled

'An act authorizing Joseph Budd and Joshua Budd to build a toll bridge across the Youghiogeny river in Westmoreland county,' which was read the first time.

Mr. M Sherry from the committee appointed for the purpose, made further report in part, which was read as follows, to wit.

That in conjunction with a similar committee from the House of Representatives, they have compared, and on the 26th inst. presented to the Governor for his approbation, the bills, entitled as follow, viz.

An act enabling the Governor to incorporate a company for making an artificial road from the state line, near the town of Emmetsburg, in the state of Maryland, through Waynesburg, Greencastle and Mercersburg, to intersect the Chambersburg and Bedford turnpike road, at or near the east end of M'Connelsburg.'

An act incorporating the Whitestown Manufacturing Company.'

An act to incorporate the town of Waynesburg in the county of Greene.'

An act to incorporate the Orphan Society of Philadelphia.'
An act for the relief of Isaac Thompson an old soldier.'
An act for the relief of Thomas Curtis.'

'An act to authorize the purchase and distribution of certain copies of the new edition of the laws of the United States.'

Mr. Power from the committee to whom was referred on the 18th inst. the petition of sundry inhabitants of Beaver and Mercer counties, on leave given, reported a bill, entitled

'An act to authorize the Governor to appoint commissioners to lay out a road from the west end of Brighton bridge to the state line, in a direction to Poland in the state of Ohio,' which was read the first time.

Mr. Morgan from the committee to whom was referred on the 9th inst. the petition of John Ashmead, on leave given, reported a bill, entitled

An act making further provision for the support of the board of wardens for the port of Philadelphia,' which was read the first time.

The bill, entitled

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to authorize the Governor to incorporate a company to erect a toll bridge over Big Beaver creek, at or near Wolf lane in the county of Beaver,' was

read the third time, and9

Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the clerk present said bill to the House of Representatives for concurrence.

Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Barnitz in the chair, on the bill, entitled

An act to facilitate the recovery of ground rents.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported the first section of the bill negatived.

On the question,

Will Senate agree to said report?

The yeas and nays were required by Mr. Morgan and Mr. Frailey, and are as follow, to wit.

So it was determined in the affirmative, and the bill lost. The clerk of the House of Representatives being introduced, presented for concurrence two bills, entitled as follow, viz.

An act authorizing the election of a constable in the borough of Greensburg.'

An act for the improvement of a road beginning at the point where the Coshecton and Great Bend turnpike passes through the Moosic mountain, in a western direction to the west line of the state.'

He returned the bill, entitled

An act to extend an act vesting in certain banking institutions within this commonwealth, the power of issuing small notes.?

And informed,

"That the House of Representatives have passed said bill without amendment.

The bills presented for concurrence were read the first time. The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from the Secretary of the Commonwealth, transmitting in obedience to the resolution of yesterday, all the title deeds and papers in his office having relation to the State House and lot adjacent, in the city of Philadelphia; and

The same was read and laid on the table.

Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Beale in the chair, on the bill, entitled

'An act concerning the sale of a tract of land of which John Burnside died possessed.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill as committed.
Adjourned until 10 o'clock on Monday morning.

MONDAY, January 29, 1816.

Mr. Lowrie presented eight petitions of similar tenor, with documents, from sundry inhabitants of Allegheny and other counties, remonstrating against a re-survey of the road leading from the town of Indiana to Pittsburg, and praying that the last survey may be confirmed by an act of assembly; and

The same were read and referred to Mr. Reed, Mr. Shannon, Mr. Lowrie, Mr. McFarland and Mr. Eeale.

Mr. Beale presented four petitions of similar tenor from sundry inhabitants of Dauphin and other counties, praying for the incorporation of a company to erect a bridge over the Susquehanna at Clark's ferry; and

The same were read and referred to the committee to whom similar petitions were referred on the 6th inst.

Mr. Morgan presented the petition of Henry Myers of the city of Philadelphia, praying payment of certain expences incurred by the courts of appeal of the 25th regiment of Pennsylvania militia whilst sitting at his house; and

The same was read and laid on the table.

The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from the Auditor General, with the documents therein referred to, which were read as follow, to wit.

SIR-Understanding that it is the wish of the legislature to know the amount of specie in the banks of the state, and each of them, we hereby certify, in amendment of the return of this bank of November last, that of the sum of $77,033 95 returned as specie and foreign notes-there was at that time, and still is in the vault of said bank, the sum of $39,480 84 in gold and silver. Which please lay before that body.

Mr. Power from the committee appointed for the purpose on the 24th inst. reported a bill, entitled

An act for the relief of certain widows and children of those who died in the service of this state during the late war with Great Britain,' which was read the first time.

The bill, entitled

An act concerning the sale of a tract of land of which John Burnside died possessed,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole on Saturday last, considered by section and agreed to.

Ordered, That said bill be transcribed for a third reading.
Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Biddle in the chair, on the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

A further supplement to an act, entitled, an act to erect the town of Somerset in Somerset county, into a borough.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill as committed.

Said bill was read the second time, considered by section and agreed to, and

Ordered, That it be prepared for a third reading.
