Utilization of AN/CPS-9 Radar in Weather Analysis and Forecasting: Final Report

Front Cover
Texas A & M University, Department of Oceanography, 1961 - Radar meteorology - 238 pages
During the thunderstorm seasons of 1959 and 1960 data were collected of subtropical thunderstorms occurring in north-central, central, and southeast Texas. The AN/CPS-9 radar was employed. Observations were obtained of radar reflectivities at various storm levels and maximum echo heights. Comparison of statistical summaries of Texas and New England thunderstorms reveals that tops of Texas thunderstorm echoes appear somewhat higher and reflectivities slightly less, at all levels, particularly in the lower parts of the storms. Due to the uncertainty in the absolute calibration of the radars no conclusion can be drawn that values of the radar reflectivity for Texas thunderstorms differ significantly from those for New England storms.
